AvadaKedavra · 22/04/2010 22:00

It irritated the hell out of my tummy, couldn't take it and I didn't think it was very effective as pain relief tbh.

themothershipcalling · 22/04/2010 22:00

Hiya, I've had it a few times - breast reduction and when had c-section with dd - did the trick good style as I remember with no side-effects!

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2010 22:01

I've had it. Made me v v constipated.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/04/2010 22:02

As the mothership, breast reduction and CS but also was prescribed it for hideous period pains and it helpd, no side effects.

Olihan · 22/04/2010 22:03

DH uses it for gout pain and back pain and has no ill effects from it. It seems to be pretty good at stopping him moaning the pain too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/04/2010 22:05

you need to take it regularly for it to be really effective. I have to take omeprazole when I take it and after a few days get tummy achy and low appetite.

Sawyer64 · 22/04/2010 22:06

I take it for Joint pains.Works well.Must be taken on full stomach or will cause stomach problems.Otherwise very good drug to take.

pinkteddy · 22/04/2010 22:07

I take it for an arthritic condition. Its a life line for me. However, it can affect liver function, not to mention a host of other possible side effects. You should have blood tests and occasional check ups if you are taking it frequently. Having said that, I seem OK so far! (been taking it for 15 years or more.)

LackaDAISYcal · 22/04/2010 22:10

I take it for a long standing shoulder problem; it's an anti inflammatory so good for things like arthritis, tendonitis etc.

No ill effects for me, but only been taking it for about six weeks, but was told to make sure to take it with food, and to stop if developing any indigestion type symptoms.

swissmiss · 22/04/2010 22:12

It the generic name for Voltaren, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) pain killer, so the same type as Nurofen/Ibuprofen. Can be harsh on the stomach but personally I never suffered. Had it after tear was stiched with DS1's birth and also was discharged with a pack of it after DD1's birth. (Had spent long time whilst pg on codeine/paracetamol due to SPD and was keen to get off the codeine which combined with iron tablets for anemia bunged me right up.) DH was prescribed it when he'd broken his foot but literally couldn't stomach it (pardon the pun!).

Shaz10 · 22/04/2010 22:14

It's like ibuprofen on steroids. Seems to be standard pain medication at my hospital!

EccentricaGallumbits · 22/04/2010 22:16

take it regularly - with food. for some weird reason it doesn't work at all for some people. i think it's marvelous although it does make my poo a bit orange.

curvey · 22/04/2010 22:20

ummm I have been given it to relieve the pain I get each month when I get my period and endometriosis

Will give it a go - so I must take it on a full stomach????

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 22/04/2010 22:20

I had it after the birth of ds1 to relieve the pain after my trip to theatre to repair the damage.

I'm prone to constipation, so only agreed to it if they prescribed lactulose too.

It worked well as a painkiller (I took it exactly as I was instructed to) and had no problems with my bowels.

curvey · 22/04/2010 22:21

how many do you take a day - Ive been told 3 tabs a day for days 1-3 of my period

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 22:25

makes my eyes v dry, but is the only thing that will shift a 3 day migrainey headache...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/04/2010 22:25

sounds right.
not got endo but have found spasmanol works well for period pains.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 22/04/2010 22:26

Yes, take it on a full stomach. Can rarely cause stomach ulcers, but is generally a very good anti-inflammatory pain killer. There will be an information leaflet in the packet which will give you lots more side effects listed, but they are obliged to list all SEs ever recorded, so don't panic! It's a very effective pain killer for the vast majority of people.

swissmiss · 22/04/2010 22:29

curvey here's the patient info leaflet. usual dosage instructions on pg3. surely how much your dr prescribed per dose per day (on the days you require it) is on the sticker put on the pack by the pharmacist?

Wolfcub · 22/04/2010 22:31

it works well but made me sick as a dog, have had it three times I think, once was when I had ds

LadyBiscuit · 22/04/2010 22:33

I've never found it massively effective - co-codamol works much better for me. But not had any dodgy side effects either (only took it for about 4 months though)

fluffles · 22/04/2010 22:37

i was prescribed it for an ankle injury - didn't find it really worked for me.

alypaly · 23/04/2010 01:16

when you have period pains it is because you are moe intolerant of the prostaglandins that your body is producing.....herefore you get increased pain/ Diclofenac is a good inhibitor of prostagladins for some people. It should be taken with or after food but not on an empty stomach. Have you got any history of stomach problems, ulcer, gastritis etc

curvey · 23/04/2010 07:37

thanks for advice -no I dont have any hitory of stomach probs, its purely been perscribed to get me through 1-2 days of intense pain related to endometriosis which I get from start of period. Hoping this will surpress the pain - will give it a go and see what happens

I can't tolerate NSAIDs. They really hurt my tummy, so when I have absolutely had to take it I take one omeprazole capsule each day as well. I'm pretty certain you can get them over the counter now.

I can't even manage ibuprofen, so it's no surprise that I needed help with diclofenac. But it's a great drug if it doesn't irritate your stomach.
