I've heard two weeks. I'm just wondering if it's two weeks for the pain to go and feeling fully recovered or will it take longer to feel myself again.

Got a really busy period coming up and just wondering realistically how much I'll be able to do

I had mine out when I was about 24 and it did take a while. YOu really have to follow the instructions re drinking loads etc to help it heal.

I had mine out at 22 and it took me a good three weeks to be able to eat comfortably and even then I would still find some things really hurt. I was tucking in to some chocolate one day and it killed, so I tried to soothe the pain with a big slug of cold water... double agony. Warm milk was my friend.

Oh and they got me to chew gum straight after the op.. flaming impossible. I could barely move my jaw. And it took me an hour to eat a slice of toast. You don't get ice cream any more, they get you to eat lots of scratchy things!

I had my out on the Tuesday and went to a college course on the Thursday. It was bloody agony but I managed it! I was back at a full time university course the following Monday. Mornings were agony for 5 or 6 days but it wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the replies - I'm really not looking forward to it but guess it's got to be better than tonsillitus every 8 weeks!

I had mine out at 28 and I would say follow their advice closely. I ended up re-admitted 4 days post op with a large bleed because I was doing too much. I didn't understand how carrying on normally could make it happen but it did and I was kept in for 5 days and taken back to theatre to stop the bleeding.

I was given rice crispies with very little milk, salt and vinegar crisps and a slice of marmite toast when I woke up then was told no chocolate until it had healed as chocolate is very sticky and does not 'wash' off with drinks very readily so can cause infection.

Oh oops that sound awful for you! I've read lots of differnt tips on line and have stocked up on loads of stuff. I'm quite worried about bleeding as I seem a bit pre disposed to do so.
