DP found a lump. What will happen?

DP has found a lump in his right testicle, he has also experienced what he has described a 'dragging' sensation for quite some while. He is not someone who seeks out health advice (which infuriates me because he ponders and worries but will not do anything about it)- I have felt the lump- it feels like a pea.

I have booked an appt tomorrow for him at the GP- The Gp will also no doubt be able to feel the lump so basically I am wondering what the normal procedure is from there?

DP has been very quiet yesterday and this morning (since I booked the appt) and I know that he is worried- I know also that he would rather not go to GP to 'deal with it'.

Thankfully his trip with work to teh States has been cancelled due to that ash cloud or whatever otherwise this would have all been put back until when he got back from New York.

Trying to be positive but very worried. Mainly about the unknown of what happens if GP refers him for whatever reason.
Any advice appreciated.

Thre are all kinds of reasons for lumps - many of them quite harmless e.g. cysts, blocked glands - and the doctor needs to work out what it is if it is to be treated successfully. If your partner or you are worried about what is going to happen next, the doctor is the person to ask because it really depends on how your partner's individual case presents. Write down your questions and attend the appointment together if that helps. If you're not sure about anything, ask at the appointment rather than keeping quiet and worrying when you get home.

If a referral is made that will be because GPs are not always equipped to carry out certain tests since they are general practitioners, not specialists. It's good that your partner is getting seen early, whatever this turns out to be, rather than putting it off further. Good luck

First step will be to have an ultrasound of his testicle - the referral for this would be pretty speedy, usually less than 2 weeks.

IF it is testicular cancer (and the balance of probability is against it), then it is very, very treatable, and he would normally have full fertility afterwards, but would be offered sperm banking jic

Most likely, its a cyst or varicose vein though.

No experience, but wishing him the best of luck tiredemma. I hope it turns out to be a cyst/blocked gland as Chil1234 days.

It could be a hair follicle that has grown inwards. My husband had that a couple of years ago and the GP recognised it straight away. Course of anitbiotics and a follow up scan. out come lump disapeard nothing showing on scan. I know it is very worrying but its best to get it sorted

Could be lots of things (cysts etc), but if it's the worst and it is cancer, it is one of the most treatable with the best recovery rates.

My uncle had it about 25 years ago and it had spread all over the place (as he was male and didn't see anyone about it) and they still cured it and he is healthy 25 years later.

Just an update (for anyone that may be interested!!)

He has been referred to Urology Dept at local hospital for 3 weeks time.
