Stomach bloating

I have been experiencing stomach bloating for the last fortnight. By the evening I look 5 months pregnant. I've eliminated alcohol, fizzy drinks and junk food from my diet but the problem persists.

I've taken senokot dual relief tablets but it hasn't helped the bloating.

I bought some activia yogurts today but reading some reports on the internet it would appear they either don't work or can cause some nasty side effects.

I'm getting married in 8 weeks and the bloating means I can't even fit into my wedding dress at the moment.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to get rid of the bloating?

Some things that can help bloating....

  • Relax. Tension and stress make stomach acids bubble up more, creating more gas. Make time in your day to relax and unwind.
  • Drink a lot more plain fluids like tepid water... herb teas like peppermint are good to calm the digestion. 2 litres a day
  • Eat more slowly, chew food thoroughly, avoid eating 'on the hoof' but sit down at a table to eat. Rushing or bolting food means you swallow a lot of air.
  • Ditch anything from your diet containing sugar, artificial sweetener or refined starch (foods made with white flour, heavily processed foods). Sugar and starch are notorious bloaters. Replace with more protein-rich foods, more wholefoods and much smaller amounts of unprocessed carbohydrates e.g. wholemeal bread, brown rice.
  • Don't go overboard on fruit. Acidic, sugary fruit can be bloating. One or two pieces a day max
  • Get plenty of fibre but watch out for certain vegetables e.g. the brassica family (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower) and things like beans which are big gas generators. Cook vegetables rather than eating them raw for the same reason
  • Exercise.... gentle, regular exercise like walking helps the digestion be more efficient at removing waste products and this reduces bloating

Good luck
