In desperation I have taken 4 co-dydramol that were prescribed for someone else.

Am I doomed?

What are they usually prescribed for?

Think I got them after giving birth, just strong painkillers. Recommended dosage is two though!

compo · 18/04/2010 15:55

What is the matter?

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 18/04/2010 15:55

IIRC they are strong painkillers. I got them after having having DC3 for afterpains - very fab things. You'll live, I'm sure (although I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case)

WaitingForGok · 18/04/2010 16:05

They are very strong painkillers. I "borrowed" a couple off my mum when I had extreme toothache. I felt very spaced out but then I don't usually have reason to take any painkillers so have a low threshold. I guess you'll be okay but don't operate any machinery

puzzlepetal · 18/04/2010 16:05

Hope you didn't take 4 at once-paracetomol is dangerous if too high a dose is taken.

Sorry, sorry, should have said 4 over the course of 8 hours. Not all at once!

Terrible period pain. Period started last night. And we had no other painkillers in the house. I considered calpol but thought it probably wouldn't do the job! I took two before I went to bed and two first thing before I could get out to buy nurofen.

I must say they do work. Have terrible dry mouth and feel a bit woozy, but was being tongue in cheek when I said "am I doomed?"

Good! Glad they helped and that your liver is not in danger. Hope you are fully better soon.

I've had them prescribed as strong painkillers. They made me very dozy. They also may make you a bit constipated because of the codeine, so keep up fluids.

I found ponstan forte (mefenamic acid) worked well for bad period pain (it was a few years ago though so not sure what they use now), I'd ask your doc. to prescribe something if this is an ongoing problem.

nappyaddict · 20/04/2010 15:47

The best thing I find to take is Cuprofen Maximum Strength with either Panadol Extra, Panadol Ultra or Solpadeine Max.

Shaz10 · 20/04/2010 15:50

I really like Solpedeine Migraine for period pains. Ignore the migraine bit, it's ibuprofen and codeine. Yum...

Jackie1973 · 21/04/2010 14:10

Don't drink alcohol with these pills!

I had been prescribed them after a road accident and felt absolutely wasted in a tapas bar about fifteen minutes after having a large glass of wine.
It was quite frightening at first but when I put two and two together I hung on for the ride and quite enjoyed the flamenco dancers, at least I think they were flamenco dancers!!

WeNeedToLeaveInFiveMinutes · 21/04/2010 17:56

This wiki link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-dydramol says there are several prescribed strengths. It's still safe enough, though.
