Parasol sun cream - is it worth the money?

I have Parasol suncream recommend to me for my family (fair skinned and burn very easily).

It's supposed to be a once a day application which would solved my problem of the DCs getting burned when outside on a school day and I'm not there to apply before they go out so I have to rely on them applying it (which isn't a reliable thing to rely on!!)

Any-who I was in the pharmacist just and it was €34.99 (I'm in Dublin by the way)

Is it worth the money (though I don't think I'll be heading back to that shop!! I'm sure it can get it cheaper somewhere else/on line)

You can get it for 18.99 here - which shows what a rip-off Ireland really is at the moment on just about everything (but also child related things seem badly marked up).

I haven't used it but would be interested in hearing what others say as sounds great.

Don't know about Parasol but I've been using a brand called Sunsense for years on the whole family. We are all fair-skinned..never had a problem.

It's an Australian company but you can get it in the UK (and probably Ireland too)

Is it a one application thing flibertygibet? it's the one application thing that's interested me.

I can prevent them from burning with any suncream - it's just the school hours I'm experiencing a problem with.

I just got DH to look in Boots - it's €24.99 in there (well not Parasol but some other similar packaged one starting with 'r')

Rip of Republic it certainly is Turniphead1!!

No it's not a one application thing but I put it on ds before he goes to school and it seems to be okay. They have different strengths.

I have used this www.p20.co.uk/ for several years ,on self and very fair skinned son.
Application is a little tricky as it's clear ,also a little " fumey " near eyes .
You need to be careful about skin being clean first - no other lotions or stray hair conditioner.
Works very well ,I tend to top it up with a stronger factor at midday or if sun very strong .
Think there are now several one a day sun creams ,piz buin make one .

I considered this last year and like you, I was pleased by the one application aspect. It was about £20 in Asda. I think I might buy it this year if someone else can prove it is only once that it needs applying.

I think that Ultrasun is better than P20: it protects against both UVA and UVB and like P20 is a once-a-day application. It also has a sensitive skin version that is very nice (and leaves your skin with a nice shimmer) which is much nicer to apply (and not so dangerous near the eyes). There is also a really strong version for kids.

it is expensive though and difficult to find (I get it in Duty free or at John Lewis) £18 or sometihng like that - but that can be balanced agaisnt only needing to put it on once a day.

ellasmum1 · 17/04/2010 18:24

I second ultrasun-- its bloody fantastic. I found out about it through mumsnet a few years ago- if you search archived threads you'll find plenty of recommendations!
The new packaging isn't as clear about once a day application but i rang the company who were so helpful and reassured me that it does work for full day.
I have used it on me and family and we have not burnt in corfu and tenerife holidays.

Its around 20-25 quid but does last well when you don't have to keep applying. Also i love the fact it doesn't make me/kids feel sticky/greasy!

Buddleja · 18/04/2010 21:26

I'll check out where I can get this Ultrasun in Dublin (though I've just come back from the UK and on of the suppliers listed on the site is around the corner from where I was staying!!)

You can get ultrasun on QVC. It is great stuff, we also are very fair and never burn with this, lasts ten hours.

I used parasol years ago but can't get it in England. Best suntan lotion ever! My 1yr old I used nivia 50spf sun block but still was burning her so I put her on parasol kids and she didn't burn once.
100% better than p20. 😀
