Is it AF and heart failure? Heart failure can often be helped with meds, ditto AF which can cause irregular heartbeat, usually give stuff to make it more regular and sometimes thin the blood.

Will check back later, can hopefully give you a bit of info if you can find out what they are treating her for? Hope she is OK, must be worrying for you.

Sorry what's af? Assume you don't mean aunt flo

Doing ok. Still hooked to heart monitor and rate still very high/fast but getting slower. Now has very low blood pressure which has baffled doctors

least she is on the right place

Atrial Fibrillation, a heart problem that causes ineffective irregular heartbeat. Sounds like she is being monitored so thats good.

Thanks

may be af but will mention it to docs when I visit her thus afternoon

saw 4 heart docs yesterday and tunns out that the top valve in her heart isnt working properly and is fluttering

on medication and once discharged in a several days, will then need to go back for a check up in 6 weeks and if not working properly then will be shocked

thanks for your help

Thanks for the update - been looking out for it Not that I helped much, it's just vaguely my territory and I am nosey

Glad they have got her stabilised on the medication, all sounds good.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 20/04/2010 21:08

It sounds like a mitral valve prolapse, they will monitor her very carefully, hopefully the medication will help.

You did help by replying so thank you

just back from visiting my mum and she looks a lot better. Off oxygen and has colour. Heart rate was 160 and now under 100. Doc said should be 60/80

she is also on hepharin injections and then waraphin - I know about these as I was in hospital 3 years ago with a clot in leg and travelled to lung and it collasped it

doc said if heart doesn't go back to normal ryrhem then will have a general and shock her

I had visions of hospital giving her a toaster and a fork lol

my mum is nearly 70 and this kinda brings it to the surface that one day my parents won't be here

but she us gettig better and hopefully will be around for another decade or two.

Cardioversion they call it. My friend had it done recently and it worked really well.

Hope she copes ok with the warfarin, it's quite a commitment/hard work but should reduce the risk of strokes from a little clot.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2010 22:40

Why do you think waraphin is hard work?

I was on it for 6mths and had weekly blood tests and then depending on my level depended on what amount if dose I took

I did find sone weeks I was shattered and falling asleep at 9pm and brocolli effected it and gawd I missed cranberry.

Mum has read her leaflet and knows what she should avoid

are you a heart doctor then

Noooo just a nurse, seen lots of people put on it for DVT/PE/heart problems and I just always thought of it as one of those drugs I hope not to have to take IYKWIM, just because other meds can affect your INR, the regular blood tests, faff with dental work, very restricted alcohol(not that I drink, TBH but the lack of choice about it) etc.

I am crap at taking tablets though, can only just manage the very occasional course of antibiotics, and struggle not to forget those. Typical nurse I suppose! And TBH I have seen more people coming in with side effects from over the counter medicines than warfarin, it's a very good drug but you need to take a lot of extra care with it.

yep my mum has her first prick tomorrow then weekly - she is gutted that needs to have less/not overdo the eggs/cheese and green leafy veg but not bothered by lack of cranberry

where my 1st week on it was mothers day and went out for a meal and was brie&cranberry - so ate the brie and left the red stuff

tbh having weekly blood tests didnt bother me
