Back Injury

Just wondered if anyone had any advice for me. I injured my back whilst sledging back in Decemeber, DS was sitting on my lap and we went very fast down a hill then took off over a bank and landed in the bottom of a dried up stream. It was instant agony in the place where my back hit the sledge, didn't want to move but managed to get up with dhs help. Went to walk in centre and they said it was muscular, gave me painkillers.
Anyway, now the general aches have gone but it is still very painful in the exact area where my back hit the sledge. Also, I get pain there if I move my arms or bend over etc. Do I go back to the docs or is it just still bruised? Dont like going to the docs unless absolutely necessary but dont really like the pain either!

personally, after suffering with a bad back for many years i wouldn't go to the doctors but would seek advice of a chiropractor or oestopath.

All the gp will do (probably) is to tell you to rest it and take painkillers! They might if you are lucky refer you for an x-ray but if its not skeletal they won't actually do much, where as a chiropractor will. They were the ones who changed my life fo rthe better

Go to the doctors you donut Or an osteopath (if you can afford to pay rather than get a referral from your GP)

Whereabouts on your back did it hit?

SoupDragon · 16/04/2010 10:54

Xpost. I agree - my GP was great though and gave me contact details for an osteopath when painkillers/rest hadn't worked. I didn't need an NHS referral though as I had private insurance. Now I just go straight to the osteopath.

Yes I know I should go - just needed someone to tell me really. Cant really afford to go down the paying route at the minute as dh is out of work.
It hit me on my upper back as I fell backwards onto the sledge, just below my shoulder blades.
Thankyou for your advice - will go next week when they are all back at school

i would go sooner rather than later, it might be you have chipped a corner off your sholuder blade. trust me i know how that feels especially when left!

SoupDragon · 16/04/2010 11:07

You could also have knocked something out of alignment. I know what that feels like

Actually, I need to phone my osteopath, I've been putting it off.

it can take a lot longer than you might expect for a soft issue injury to settle but i would definately seek advice either from your GP or a physiotherapist

hogshead · 16/04/2010 11:11

that should be soft tissue not issue (doh!) but it would be advisable to get advice to check it was just muscular
