Does anyone know what "white matter volume loss" means? It's on the report from ds2's mri but we only got a proper copy of it today, even though it was done in september! Is it another way of saying periventricular leukomalacia, or is it something else?

Thanks Whymummy. I was hoping for an actual explanation though, as to what it means. Is it another way of saying that part of white matter is dead? Anyone else out there who knows?

Periventricular leukomalacia just about covers it.

The white matter is the bit inside the cortex and surrounding the ventricles that is made up of axons and supportive tissue.

It sounds as though ds2's scan shows a smaller amount of white matter than you would expect for the size of the brain.

Don't know if that helps?
