Not unless you live in Iceland. Apparently the debris/smoke will be too high in the atmosphere to affect us healthwise but could cause a nasty plane accident if any got into engines and visibility is poor at altitude.

SpawnChorus · 15/04/2010 08:54

Are you living in Pompeii 1,931 years ago? If not, I think you'll be fine.

The Icelandic stuff it waaaaaaaay up in the atmosphere.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2010 08:56

is the icelandic volcano getting grumpy again?

throckenholt · 15/04/2010 08:57

it's about 9km up at present - where planes engines can be affected by not people on the ground.

Naetha · 15/04/2010 08:57

but look out for the sunsets though

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2010 08:58

oh yes - I see.

hopefully will stay up nice and high. got 4 loads of washing to dry. (well dh has - I'm just issuing the orders helpful advice)

mankyscotslass · 15/04/2010 09:05

I think it is too high really to cause any health issues (at the moment).

We may get some spectacular sunsets though!

If it continues to spew out loads of ash for an extended period of time I think there is the potential for it to affect the average temperature by a small amount, and affect our weather, but I think thats too early to call.

I need to do some digging, I seem to remember some concerns about this at the time of the original eruption in March, although I am not sure if that was related to a concern this eruption could trigger a second one in another volcan, one with more potential for disruption.

It's very interesting.

LOl
yes all of you run and hide.

wukter · 15/04/2010 09:10

While it's dry we are completely fine, it's the precipitation that'll bring it down, and by the time that happens it may all be dispersed anyway.

Looking forward to the sunsets.

mankyscotslass · 15/04/2010 09:10

I wish DH was home, then I could escape out in peace at sunset with my camera!

M32song · 15/04/2010 09:14

what does it do to sunsets?

mankyscotslass · 15/04/2010 09:20

Apparently the particles in the atmosphere refract the light of the sun and create beautiful sunsets when the light from the sun hits them at the correct angle
