I get this alot and keep meaning to go to gp but then I feel better and don't bother.

I feel light headed and dizzy, a bit unbalanced, sitting aswell as standing. Started earlier this evening. SOmetimes it's when I get up in middle of night.

I suffer from tinitus and have done for years, also have low bp as a matter of course. Do you think it's all linked.

I realise you are not gp's and don't expect you to properly diagnose you understand, I think I will make gp appt tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

reckon its linked to low bp as my husband is prone to fainting and this is why - he has low blood presure due to being very fit, and if coupled with dehydration and standing suddenly he may faint.
or pregnancy??!!

Lionstar · 13/04/2010 21:49

Expect it's linked to low BP. I've had dizzy episodes in the past and it has always been related to undereating and caffeine consumption as well as low BP and being bradychardic (slow heartbeat)

liahgen66 · 13/04/2010 21:55

thanks ladies,

Pregnancy? We're trying hard but too early yet so not that.

Think it's the bp. and I've had a coffee today and I try not to really, not much else in the way of fluids though so bit dehydrated perhaps.

Gonna get gp appt, it's a bit bothersome but not life threatening, never actually faint but it does make me walk funny sometimes, as if I've just got off a boat.

pmsl at being very fit though. Gp did tell me I had the bp of an athlete, wish I had the bod to go with it.

Could be a middle ear problem - I had similar symptoms with onset of labyrithitus or there's something maybe called Menieres which is a bit of debris floating in your middle ear which confuses the signals a bit - oddly easy to fix - Dr does a sort of manipulation to move it to somewhere it won't bother you, more common in older people though, my Mum had this but it went away by itself.

I had that once and the doctor said it was a virus and prescribed me anti-sickness tablets. I was sceptical but they worked and it went after a week.

Hope you feel better soon

liahgen66 · 13/04/2010 22:03

bloody hell that sounds like me.

And my hearing has diminished recently, dh is always telling me wash your ears out and I have to ask people to repeat several times sometimes.

Definately making gp appt now. THANK YOU, (whoops sorry caps)

I am 43 and this has been getting worse for a long time.

I shouldn't have ignored it.

DW has suffered from very similar symptoms for years. The doctors think it is Ménière's disease but they are not sure after many scans and tests.

DW used to fall over and smack her head on the pavement without warning. She can never drive as she would just slump over against the window or on to the passenger seat. She now has to balance with her eyes and is one of the reasons she cannot use computers for long periods. The horizontal lines of text make her feel dizzy after a while.

It is tentaivley thought that it may be caused by low blood flow round the inner ear that affects the function of the balancing mechanism. It gets worse when DW is having her period, tired or not feeling well.

She takes Ginkgo Biloba that does seem to help as it increases blood flow. Interestingly she also got pregnant after a great deal of difficulty once she started taking it. Again related to blood flow. She took it the advice of an acupuncturist/Chinese medicine specialist.

Sadly, she will never be free of the condition but is much better than she was 15 years ago.

Liahgen66 - I too experience these symptoms. I find a second bottle glass of wine makes me feel much better.

BeenBeta · 13/04/2010 22:15

Oddly DW finds 1 glass of wine does help but 3 make it worse. Seriously.

mumblecrumble · 13/04/2010 22:18

Me dad has labarynthitus - your sounds th same.,

good luck!

JaynieB · 13/04/2010 22:22

It must have been something else my Mum had then but that was definitely debris in the middle ear and the GP told her about a technique he could use to help move it - not guaranteed to work, but hers resolved itself.

TippexTheCat · 19/04/2010 20:01

I get lightheadedness a lot. I have been to my GP a few times over the years, and have had blood tests. He doesn't get that it's not actually dizziness, and says there's nothing he can do about it. Never mentioned ears.

I have had to go home from work a couple times in the past year because of it, but it usually passes after a couple of hours and isn't too bad.My BP is normal.

Should I be getting a second opinion?
