Medication for Sweaty Betty Syndrome?

Has anyone taken medication to inhibit perspiration? I can't for the life of me remember what it's called, was discussing it with the GP last year, but couldn't take it because I was breastfeeding. Not any more, though, and am now wondering about the coming summer.

Any experiences of such medication?

Try DRICLOR it really works. Can make your pits sting a little, so don't shave them before use, and follow the instructions. It is incredible stuff though.

My friend had bad problems-even when she washed her clothes they still smelt of BO. She used to go to the hospital for injections in her armpits-did work though.

Have you had your thyroid tested? Is this something that has developed since having the baby?

You can have nerves in your armpit snipped (afaik) to stop perspiration if it's a big problem and it isn't your thyroid.

I second Driclor. It REALLY works, I bathed every single day (no exaggeration) and before I even got out of the bath I still smelt of B.O. [BLUSH], it was etting to the point everyone around me noticed.

My OH and I went to Ireland I came from the shower and got him to smell my pits, he said it was like I'd just done a workout. I tried Driclor after hearing about and and seriously it is THE best thing that has happened, I dont smell AT ALL now.

It bimmin brilliant

I tried Driclor years ago and had a bad reaction to it - my sweat glands became inflamed.

Besides, it's not the underarms so much (I can cope with them (Pitrok block or spray while still damp from shower, follwed by regular deodorant when dry). My problem is my forehead. Because I have no eyebrows the perspiration just pours into my eyes. Very unpleasant.

It's not my thyroid - had that checked last year when I first discussed this with GP.

The injection GG talks about are Botox. I'm considering doing them in my forehead to inhibt the perspiration, but don't fancy the expressionless paralysis.

Could you grow a fringe to cover up your forehead?

Have you been screened for diabetes or adrenal gland function?

The surgery to snip the nerve in the armpits is called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, but this only has an effect on the armpit sweat.

PrettyCandles · 14/04/2010 17:40

I wasn't screened for diabetes (showed no symptoms). I don't recall whether I was screened for adrenal gland function.

I've always been sweaty but otherwise healthy. The perspiration was never an issue other than cosmetic-wise. It's only in the past couple of years that it has become a problem, since I lost my eyebrows. Probably through alopecia.

I used to have a fringe - not that it made any difference to how much I perspired - but have had to get rid of it. Unless I have it unattractively short it pokes me in my eyes - again because I have no eyebrows to divert it.

I never appreciated how much eyebrows did for you until I lost them!

List of reasons here for eyebrow loss if you never got it diagnosed.

I'm currently being tested for thyroid due to this. However, my osteopath said sometimes it can be diet and suggested I see a nutritionist and perhaps try kinesiology as I have a few other problems that indicate my body is "out of sync" in many ways.

If thyroid is negative I'm going to try diet as well.
