HELP PLEASE - rosacea triggers - how quick??

I have developed rosacea, and having done some research now understand that various things can trigger it. I am trying to pinpoint what mine might be, but just wondered whether any fellow sufferers have figured out the time lag between the trigger (say, the wine/chilli/sun) and the onset of a flare up???? This might seriously help me out. A couple of weeks ago I had a flare up, I THINK possibly after eating shepherds pie (with cinnamon in it).

Had same supper last night and today I am a disaster area so emergency measures being taken. Is this too quick, or a typical trigger time period?

Mine can be instant (or at least within minutes I feel the flush start) with spicy foods, alcohol, and temperatures.

Mine tend to be fairly rapid. For me it's hot rather than spicy food and drink. Can also be just eating a large helping of (warm) food. Alcohol yes (alas - though red wine and beer more of a 'killer' than chilled white) and temperatures yes. Sitting down to a large meal in a hot room induces the old cherry tomato glow within fifteen minutes.

Is your bedroom heated? I keep the radiator off in mine as I tend to find that a night's sleep in a cool room calms face down. (we just have a slightly higher tog duvet)

Heat, yes and red wine.
Mine was controlled very well with long term use of tetracycline. I took it on and off for several years and have been off it for a long time now.

Gah, been put on the pill to try and sort out some period problems. It's been so long since I've been on it that I forgot it triggers my skin off too. Bah.

Back to the doctors I go (if I can make myself go out with my face like this)

I get Papopustular Rosacea very quickly. and my Metrovream is not touching it. Ho hum.

i cut out all triggers for a few months and can now occassionaly have hot food etc without a reaction.

Hi

Also suffer .

Mine are stress, sunshine (yes even current weak rays do it and even if I wear sunscreen) and cold weather. So leaving the house is stressful (which makes it worse argh!).

Hence am constantly purple practically. Its the whole face too. However trigger are almost instant for me or few hours at best.

Am taking erythomicin and am now "just" red/pinky rather than purple.

Don't really get the paupuls just so so red.

Tried most things and antibiotics are the only thing which has any discerable effect. Certain skin products with parabens or alcohol make it a millon times worse.

Its rubbish and unfair!

Thanks to those who have posted, these have been v. helpful. I think (only think, never sure!) that two triggers for me are cinnamon and Peroni.

I have a glass of lager from time to time, and have never noticed it cause a problem. However, the last couple of weeks we have had Peroni in the house, cos DH really likes it, and on the two occasions I have drunk it (only one bottle I hasten to add) my face has gone doo-lally!!

This mild sun does seem to be helping me, slightly, if not only because getting a bit more colour over what is a very pale face is softening the contrast between my pale cheeks and the redness elsewhere, just going for an overall "rosy" look now!!!! Here's hoping.

red wine is deffo a trigger for me.

I can feel the 'glow' as I drink it so am avoiding it now.

Have to say though that a while ago Mumsnet asked me to test a Fish Oil for a company. I have been taking it along with Ds who is trialling the kid fish oil and my skin has really cleared up LOADS!

I will go and find out which one it is but my hair and nails are lovely too and my skin is so much less red it is unbelievable!

Tastes vile but working for my skin!

joster · 15/04/2010 16:05

Wow, I would really appreciate the name, if you would be so kind. I probably don't eat enough oily fish anyway, it's the one part lacking in what is otherwise a pretty balanced diet, so a supplement in that area wouldn't do me any harm at all and if it does anything to settle the skin down that would be Wunderbar. Thanks in advance......
