Husband has a lump - please hold my hand

My husband has had a lump in his neck for ages. Looked like a swollen gland.

Have finally persuaded him to go to the doctor's and they are sending him for tests as it is either a swollen saliva gland or a tumour.

Have lost the plot a little. Both of my parents died of cancer when I was in my 20s and I just can't deal with it again.

Help.

don't panic. Even if it is cancer treatment has moved on hugely since your parents time - don't expect the worst until you have no alternative.

Did he get any indication of how soon he will get the results ?

assumetheposition · 12/04/2010 10:43

He has to go for blood tests later today and will get a referral within 2 weeks.

It's a big lump!

I know I shouldn't panic and it will all be fine but I had years of people telling me it was all going to be alright and it never was

hope all is well.. it is human nature to jump to the worst possible conclusion, especially as you have lost your parents to cancer. but this could well be a benign lump. try not to panic x

thanks

I have also discovered that Google is a terrible thing!

Assume, my grandad had the same thing a couple of years ago, and it did turn out to be a blocked gland, despite all the doom and gloom the doctors gave out right up until the op.

I would be freaking out too in your position, but really, he ended up being in hospital for only a few days and has had no bother since.

Thinking of you xx

Thanks Foxy - it's good to know

Just going to be a long couple of weeks I suppose.

They have phoned today to make his appointment.

It's ridiculous isn't it. They get people seen as quickly as possible to put their minds at rest, but I just infer that they must think he's on death's door to arrange it that quickly.

I've had a lump in my neck for ages - it's a reactive lymph node.
One year, two blood tests and three biopsies on, the consultants I have seen are now pretty convinced it is a little unusual, but harmless. Google will have you believe otherwise, but really it could be nothing. Be strong and good luck.
