Have two lovely dc, dh wants another, I, on the other hand, do not . And yes, dh is aware of that!

Dh now attempting to reconstruct some semblance of 'mummy and daddy time' which has been pretty much non existent since arrival of dc2 over a year ago . Because of this, I'm not using any contraception, and condoms, well, a bt of a passion killer with dh

I don't want to go back on the pill as my bmi is in the 'grey' area (am starting to lose baby weight though, so am dealing with tha, but still don't like the increased risk of some cancers with long term use of pill, especially as there as histories of various cancers in maternal side of family), so what options could anyone suggest? Am looking into this before I see GP so rather than them trying to fly through all options in a 5 min appointment, I can go in with a sort of shortlist if not firm idea of what i want.

Any info greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you want really good contraception advice, then I'd go to a family planning clinic, not the GP. The doctors who specialise in contraception are much better informed about all the choices, and how they may suit ime.

Sounds like you want some long acting reversible contraception though - have you considered a coil ? I have a Mirena, and have had then for nearly 8 years in total (one before DS, and this one after), and have not had any trouble with it at all - but as you will see here, some do. But copper coils are good if your periods are OK

am in the same boat yousaidit so going to watch with interest....
DH wants to use "standard days method" but breastfeeding DD (conceived her while using standard days, but breastfeeding DS )

I also went for the Mirena and like it, lasts for up to five years and forget it's there. Actually my threads disappeared ages ago so I couldn't get it taken out without a faff anyway Condoms don't suit DHus, and my pill is no good while breastfeeding.

Second the suggestion of family planning clinic, they are much better informed about all the options than the GP, and more interested in helping you find something to suit, IMHO.

The Family Planning Assoc have a website with leaflets/pdfs about different methods which might be worth a look, it's a bit crap to navigate though.

Look right at the bottom of this Wikipedia article for a list of contraceptive options - the only one not available in this country is the nuvaring.

I would probably recommend a coil, implant, depo (or sterilisation if you are 100% sure you don't want more children) for you.

Progesterones might not help your weight though if you are prone to weight gain, so you might need a simple copper coil which if you haven't got heavy periods should be ok.

Most GPs aren't terribly good with contraceptive choices and IME just want to bung women on the pill. I would second CMOT and advise you go to the FPC, or see the practice nurse. (I'm a PN and we see the majority of women about contraception rather than the GP!)

We have two children and dh would like more wheras I don't. I have a mirena coil and find it great.
