New mole on foot - can I wait a month before seeing dr?

My podiatrist noticed a mle on my foot that seems to have appeared in the last 6-8 months and suggested I get it checked to be on the safe side.

I can get in to see the dr tomorrow, however if I wait for four weeks I can get an appointment with the dr at the surgery who is also a dermatologist at the local hospital. Ideally I would prefer to see her as I would be more confident in her diagnosis but I'm wondering if it's wise to leave it that long?

The mole in itself is flat, light brown, fairly symetrical and not bigger than 5mm so does not look sinister but I'm concerned if I see regular dr tomorrow and he says it's fine I'll still be worried and want to see other dr anyway????

WWYD??

Yes, it's for anxiety.
Sounds as though you have tried hard to help yourself.

CBT is possible by using a book or online (some site called moodgym I think?) but best with a proper psychologist or counsellor.

You could easily get referred for a proper course of it, and the support you get is great - that's the main thing about mine, not the techniues which frankly I am too cynical for, but the support and friendship I get from the woman I see.

Give it a try if you feel like it.

Morning, Choclab...

ADs, therapy, ADs, therapy, ADs, therapy...
Come on, help is out there.

Remember, we spoke on the other thread few weeks ago?...honey, it cannot go on like this.

You have to make a decision to help yourself, it's not going to go away on its own.

I know you posted asking about the side effects of the meds a while ago. There was one person who had a reaction to them, and even she has admitted it's very rare and it wasn't life-threatening. Plenty other people were helped a great deal by these ADs.

And CBT sounds great, if you can actually go and see a good therapist.

I suppose also one way I put things into perspective is that one day, we are all going to die...and that's the worst that can happen, really...a bit random but there you go. There's no point wasting your life worrying about it.

It's not the health issue at all, really, is it? It's the fear. Fear of fear.

CBT is supposed to help with that, but really, if you can be aware that that's what your problem is, it all starts to look far easier.

Anything health related is pretty irrelevant.

thanks to you both , i know you both make sense ,
i do loose the plot at times ..

where should i start ? CBT or AD

thanks for advice

Up to you. start with your GP and see what they suggest. You can combine the two.

I don't like ADs myself because I don't believe they fix things - they are a crutch, not a cure - but useful in some situations for instance if the problem is guessably temporary (grief, event-related depression etc that will ease with time anyway - they get you over the worst of it)

but loads of people depend on them to make life more manageable, and say it works for them.

So really, you can start where you like. Neither will have an immediate effect but it's never that easy

Good luck.

thanks , im going to join a gym to as i think exercise will help to , i already have the AD to take but to scared , scared that i may become addicted and not be abe to come off them ..

CBT could be good thing to , i am much better when im pro active ...

mole is less red ,almost how it was , so bit calmer today , i am going to go back to skin clinic in a few weeks on something els so will get him to double check that particular mole to , if it gets worse i will go sooner .

thanks all for help and advice .

choclab, get yourself to CBT, please. Then you can see whether Ads are still necessary. I agree with Fliight that they will not cure your HA, but maybe they can be helpful if you're super-anxious.
Definitely the therapy, though. You can get better, you just need to make an appointment and you'll be on your way to anxiety-free existence. Doesn't that sound good?

choclab · 10/04/2010 08:47

yes sounds good ...
should i go to doctor or go on line to look for someone private ?
i know last time i saw someone on NHS i had to wait 2 months till i was finally seen ....i dont think i can wait that long ..
then only had about 6 sessions then it stopped .
