Periods - sorry if TMI!

Hello all

Usually my periods are pretty regular, to the week if not the day, though there have been a couple that have been a few days late or early.

My last period started on 20th March and was perfectly normal - a little lighter than usual, but that does tend to happen sometimes.

Then last night, I got another period. This is definitely way, way out of whack. I'm not on the pill or anything, I can't think why it's happened.

Is this normal? Or has something caused it? Should I be concerned? Sorry to ask questions about something I really should have a handle on by now, it's just left me all muddled as it's never happened before!

Is it possible that you were pregnant? That that is why your first period was lighter?

KittyTwoShoes · 06/04/2010 18:56

Definitely, definitely not possible!

It's hard to 'diagnose' obviously but something similar happened to me and freaked me out. This isn't to say it's the same thing but I went to the doctor, got some checks and had a polyp and some (benign) cysts. It isn't anything overly serious (a bit yuck) but at least knowing is so much better than the worrying.

I'd say it's worth making an appointment with the doctor just to check out and get the scans and everything - just to put your own mind at rest as much as anything.

Thanks ladies! I did have a bump on my groin which the doctor said was probably a gland or a cyst and go back in a month, about a month ago, so it sounds as though it may be the cyst thing... I think I'll make an appointment with the doctor just in case.

I won't be at home until the end of the month now, do you think that'll be okay to wait to see someone, or should I try and go to a dr I'm not registered with sooner?

If you're worried can you find a local NHS walk in centre?

It's happened to me once btw...I am a ^clockwork* 28.5 days cycle and have been for about 17 years (omg...17 YEARS>>>? lol)

But once I had a breakthrough period and really couldn't make out why. Has never happened again. Just a random one.

Try not to worry!

First appt with gynae after being referred at my request by GP - been suffering from very heavy periods with tissue loss, very painful though shortlived midcycle cramping with pink/bloody discharge (about 30 mins of cramps, very intense). Kind of general achey twinges in few days leading up to period.

What can I expect? Internal scan?

Could this be endo or some kind of cysts?

wildstrawberryplace · 08/04/2010 12:26

oops sorry OP!

I meant to start my own thread.

Thanks Val, I'll try not to worry! I'm not "truly" worried, if that makes sense, just a little. I can be a bit of a hypocondriac!

And don't worry Wildstrawberry, not a problem. Sorry I can't give any suggestions for you, I hope you get answers soon!
