My children have both been in the sun alot recently and have been covered in factor 30, however, both their faces are really patchy white/brow. Has anyone else experienced this or knows what causes this? Thanks.

Have you got all the suncream off? Some of the higher factors are really difficult to shift!!

Could it be a reaction to the sun ? I had a similar thing when I was pregnant, I can't remember its name but it was a patchy discolouration of the skin (especially the face). It didn't endanger my health and I think it was something to do with the pigment in my skin.

Perhaps mears could help, I think she's a midwife and wuld probably have a level of knowledge re your situation.

rosehip my dd(3) has her face covered in them after a holiday the condition is called pityriasis alba and is mild dermatitis that occurs between the ages of 3 and 16 and tends to become more prominent by sun exposure,i will try and find out if there`s a cream for it

Hi Rosehip and Whymummy - pitiriasis alba is caused by a reaction to the ingredients of some sun creams: I believe that the culprit is cocoa butter, but as it's about 10 years since I had it my memory might be faulty. A simple cure for it is to was the skin with anti dandruff shampoo, as the active ingredient in the shampoo kills off the fungus that causes the patches. Basically my GP said that in some people, the cocoa butter upsets the bactirial balance of their skin so that they become vulnerable to the fungus. It's not catching, not serious, and they do fade over a couple of years. As far as I know there is not much else you can do.

thanks gilli!i used soltan baby 25,i cant see any cocoa butter in the ingridients but its probably there

Apparently the manufacturers of Suncream don't recommend any of their products to babies under one year old, even though some of them appear to be marketed at them! I know this because I phoned the helpline of Solarius Baby suncream when my dd developed a rash on her face and they told me!

If you want a skin-friendly suncream, try to get one that contains Zinc Oxide.
