vomiting bug and dizziness/fainting

Hello
I have spent the night vomiting for Britain. I am still up and have just 'come round' from a period of time spent lying on the floor. I started to feel dizzy after another bout of vomiting, stood up and everything went fuzzy. I lay on the floor (floorboards - v cold and hard) and sort of drifted in and out of sleep for over an hour. At various points I woke up and thought 'this is interesting - I wonder if this is what people talk about when they say 'drifting in and out of consciousness'' and then I floated off again.

I feel a bit better now, but should I be worried? I am single parent and dd (18 months) is asleep and so far touch wood hasn't puked, but it has just scared me a bit that I sort of semi passed out alone in the house with her (thinks Bridget Jones style 'eaten by aslatian' scenarios!) Also can anyone tell me is this symptomatic of norovirus? I have not had any diahorrea (sp?) YET...

sorry, can't help with the symptoms but is there anyone you could call? in case you faint again, its not really safe for you or your dd.

have you been sipping water? so you are not dehydrated

Buzzybb · 04/04/2010 01:58

Poor you it does sound like the norovirus you don't always have vomiting or diarrhea with it, do you have anyone to come around and be there for your dc?
Symptoms can be fever, nausea, stomach cramps, aching limbs, light headedness, dizzyness, vomiting and diarrhea,
Can you ring NHS DIRECT?
Will see if I can come up with anything that will help, will be back soon

oh brilliant someone else is up! thank you so much for replying - am feelign a bit lonely and poorly sitting here all by myself! Yes I feel very very thirsty and so am having some squash made with cooled warmish boiled water - when I drank cold water I threw it all back up again. I thought the sugar in the squash night help with dehydration. I have texted a neighbour and my mum so they know I am not well - am hoping the neighbour will have dd in the morning for a couple of hours as I feel very very ropey

yes I have all those symptoms buzzybb except the diahoreah (how how how do you spell it?!?!). My body feels achy and I am very hot and cold. I vomited so badly and uncontrollably that I 'decorated' the bathroom (sorry TMI) even though I was trying to be sick in the loo. I have rung nhs direct in the past and found them about as much use as a chocolate teapot, so think I am going to stick with the warm squash strategy as it seems to be staying down for the moment. I am being careful eg crawling up the stairs rather than walking incase I have another dizzy spell.
Thanks for replying guys, it is really really nice to know there are people out there when you are feeling rough and want your mummy!

Ok woke DP to ask him [he is a paramedic] think he muttered Take paracetamol for fever and/ pain, drink loads of fluids to keep hydrated [not fizzy/sports drinks] juices or water. What he then said was unrepeatable
My cure would be brandy and soda water always works but maybe you would prefer the medical advice HTH
Get well soon

SusieCarmichael · 04/04/2010 02:09

take tiny sips of the juice, if you drink too much at once it will make you sick, little sips slowely soak into your body but not enough to go straight to your stomach and make you throw up

SusieCarmichael · 04/04/2010 02:10

'slowely' ?? well it is late

MiniMousse · 04/04/2010 02:16

Oh bless you and a big thank you and apologies to your DH! No brandy or soda water in the house but I do have some lemsips - just the plain ones that are paracetamol without all the extra 'plus' stuff, so am going to take one of those and then return to swabbing the bathroom walls/floor/ceiling with bleach and hot water. I have already cleaned the worst. Smells like a swimming pool up there. Not my ideal job right now but I really don't want a small excited toddler to be dancing in my vomit in a few hrs when she wakes up...

Poor you take a basin lined with a bin bag up to bed with you I know it is disgusting but at least you can tie a knot in the bag and dd cannot get at it [hangs head in shame as I realise some of my ideas and things i do are really gross ]try sipping juice over the next few hrs and hopefully you can get someone to help with dd in the morning

SusieCarmichael · 04/04/2010 02:25

thats a great idea buzzybb (a bit disgusting but but really a good one)

SusieCarmichael · 04/04/2010 02:26

'but but' .....is that like 'really really'

how are you feeling mini?

Buzzybb · 04/04/2010 02:29

I would offer to come and help but vomit makes me vomit the bin bag idea came because Dp will not deal with any messy bodily fluids he has handed dd back to me when she spits up milk so when i had swine flu and did not want to make a mess he came up with this idea I often wonder how he copes at work

Buzzybb · 04/04/2010 07:46

Good morning Hope you are feeling better today

violetqueen · 04/04/2010 10:43

Oh you poor ,poor thing !
Not much to help - they say flat coke is good to rehydrate you .
Toast ,apple to eat ,if you can...
I like pepto bismol tablets - coat the stomach a bit .
Also ,here's another bad bit - it's massively contagious ,little ones seem to catch it .
Perhaps be uber cautious about what she touches .
Good luck and hugs .

hello all
well after getting to bed at about 2.30 when the puking seemed to stop, dd woke at 3.30 and was then awake until 6.30, not the ideal scenario! I think she wasn't feeling too good either, as I could tell she was trying to go back to sleep and something was bothering her, but she doesn't quite have the language to tell me yet - she hasn't vomited but she has had liquid diahorea nappies all day. My mum, bless her, came over and has looked after dd all day as I have been in bed feelign like I've been hit by a truck - everything aches adn I have got a horrible headache. Have eaten 2 of dd's little easter bunny biscuits, and that's it. BUT I am feeling a lot better than I was last night, although I still feel like another episode of vomiting is just around the corner. A couple of my friends and their little ones have had a vomiting bug and for some it has lasted a week :-(
am going back to bed now. thank you for all your advice and support - it is muchly appreciated!
