fibrocystic breast disease - new lump

norksinmywaistband · 01/04/2010 17:46

I was diagnosed with FCBD last year after finding a lump and going through all the appropriate tests/biopsys etc

That lump is still present but have just discovered a new lump.

It doesn't feel exactly like the other one did, but am sure it is still part of the FCBD.

So.... Do I get it checked out, or would that be wasting Dr's time considering I have been told I have a disease that causes lumpy breasts and was told I would get more?

Not wasting the doctor's time! Go get it checked out. You're almost certainly right, but you won't know until you do - and if nothing else, you're entitled to peace of mind. I know my GP would rather I got it checked out that not (I also have FCBD, have had it for years, and don't go for general lumpiness - which is all the time - but would for a new lump).

thanks for the reply, yes the lumpiness is constant, but this is a new defined lump. will make an appointment after Easter

Hope it'll be ok. I have FCBD as well and never check mine these days but will start to do so again.

I'll be thinking of you.

Elibean · 10/04/2010 22:38

They are right to fast track you for any lump - standard, I think, and appropriate. Doesn't mean anything sinister in itself, Iknow its hard to stay with the thought that its a good thing, but means, hopefully, you will get peace of mind faster! Good luck, will be thinking of you.

ps sorry for typos am away and on silly laptop

norks they always fast track with lumps, so don't let that panic you and remember most lumps aren't anything to worry about. Fingers crossed for you

appointment tomorrow am - getting nervous now.
I hated the biopsy last time they dug around for about 5 mins before deciding I needed LA as it was more complicated than they thought.
Do you think I can ask for a proper biopsy rather than a Fine needle one straight off. Childcare is a nightmare and I really don't want to have to go back if it is nothing.
Last time they got me back 3 days later for a normal biopsy as they hadn't actually got a sample from the FNA even after 10 minutes total prodding with a needle

By 'normal' do you mean a core biopsy? Thats what I had, with fibrocystic lumpy area. They went straight for that because it wasn't one discrete lump, iyswim, more an area of rubbery lumpiness.

I don't know if you can choose or not, maybe it depends on the surgeon/clinic? Can't see how you can discuss it with them without going along to the appointment...but I would certainly tell whoever you first see when you get there about your last experience.

Wishing you lots of luck with both biopsy process and results!

norksinmywaistband · 20/04/2010 19:51

thanks elibean, yes I did mean a core biopsy.

Hope they will listen tomorrow.
