cervix survey - warning tmi

Hi Ladies

Need some advice - urogynae consultant says my low cervix is normal in women who have had children . Says no prolapse.

When standing can feel it at about 6 cm - slightly less than the length of my middle finger. My question is - do I actually have a prolapse and if so should I press for further action - which is guess would be surgery rather than physio , as I have heard physio does nothing for a uterine prolapse.

Many thanks

Minnie

Not an expert (I'm a GP by training) but I would think that any symptoms should guide what you do about it.
A low lying cervix in itself does not need treatment unless it is causing pain (ie a dragging sensation when standing or pain during sex).
Do you have and urinary or rectal symptoms?
I would expect physio to strengthen your pelvic floor would have some effect on a minor degree of uterine prolapse (which is what I would call what you describe - ie a weakened pelvic floor not supporting the uterus as highly as before children).
I think any surgeon would be reluctant to operate if the only symptom is an awareness of low lying cervix.

Yes do have some urinary symptoms but have had normal urodynamics. Sounds like maybe the physio could help after all chewy toffee (great name by the way ). Anyone else had a low cervix and improved it without surgery? Thanks chewytoffee for responding to my post.

I think you should try doing PFE for 3 months at least and see what happens.
I had a repair with a cervix a bit like yours but I also had a saggy feeling as if something was not right- it was a bulge on the anterior vaginal wall. I had a full repair 19 years ago.My cervix is still not where it was before DCs but i try to do my PFE when I remember!
You could try seeing a physio who specialsies in women's gynae health.

However, if you can get a referral to a gynae or can pay to go privately they might be able to shed more light on it for you and put your mind at rest.

sorry see you have already had a consultation. Did they do the usual looking whilst you coughed? that way they can tell how much "slack" there is and if it needs surgery.

Thanks for responding purplepeony. No , I didn't have to cough but I did have to bear down as hard as I could and then the consultant rummaged around and the consultant concluded I had a "wellsupported" uterus - though it doesn't feel that way to me!
Have made an appointment today with a physio who specilaises in women's health and have arrange to go back to the consultant so he can explain things to me again.
