I haven't been here for a while.

I went to the GP this morning and she thinks I have chrones disease, a few members of my family have it and my uncle is basically at deaths door at 46 because of it.

Im genuinly scared.

I'e bee refered for a camera thingy, but i dodn't know what kind (dwn my throat up my backpassage or belly button??) the doctor just used a big technical word and didn't say what it was, or where it would go

Worst thing is I have anxiety over dying and my family being ill and I had my assesment with the mental health team last week but it was cancelled, my anxiety had gotten bad but im going to fnd it hard to keep my thoughts in check until i know whats going on.

I feel like a wreck

Disenchanted, I don't know anything about chrones disease, but I'm sure some people will be along soon who do.

I know its easy to say, but try not to get over anxious, hopefully once you are properly diagnosed, it will be possible to get your symptoms under control. And that in itself may help with your anxiety.

Have they rescheduled your MH assessment? if not, I would try to get that sorted out. Also if you feel you need to, go back to your GP to discuss your worries, and the procedures involved. They may give you something for your anxiety.

From my own experience, the likeliest camera procedures would be either a colonoscopy, or a sigmoidoscopy. I've had both of these. The (v.small) camera is put into your bottom so they can look at the bowel. You will probably be offered sedation. It is a little uncomfortable, but not unbearably so, and over quite quickly.

Even if you do have crohn's, it is really good that you have been diagnosed so soon (I am assuming you are not horribly ill with it as GP diagnosis, not hospital). I have ulcerative colitis and lead a completely normal life, with just a few more breaks lying about reading books than other people. The treatments have probably improved since your uncle was diagnosed and are improving all the time.

I also think that being anxious is a completely normal reaction, but whatever you do don't go trawling the internet for info (other than support group and nhs sites) - you will only find the online equivalent of misery memoirs, people at the illest end of the spectrum or who are in some way defined by their illness. People like me just going about as normal are comepletely under-represented.

It is a horrible time, but not even confirmed yet, so it could still be nothing. Best of luck and I hope you have a real life shoulder to cry on. It's not a death sentence, honestly.

Thanks Hippy,

thats what I was thinking it was , a death sentance.

I need to get a proper diagnosis first.

I could still be something less serious like a allergy or IBS.
