Disc prolapse in back - please tell me something positive!

Have had a second episode of disc prolapse back in September, 6 months on and pain is better but still nagging away, every day, some days better than others. Doing heaps of swimming - usually a mile a day - and all the obvious things like no lifting, bending. Can't get my head round Pilates.

Have just struggled simply cleaning out the guinea pigs as they're on ground level and I'm feeling very low and upset.

Can someone please offer words of wisdom? Ta!

Didn't want to leave this unanswered (as I had 3 prolapsed discs at once - I don't exactly feel your pain but I empathise, really I do).

Are you having any treatment apart from exercise? (Osteopathy? Physio? Have you a consultant?) Have you pain killers which work? Is the pain getting worse?

If it's really giving you grief, I'd go back and see what is available. (I eventually had an operation but I wouldn't recommend that to someone who can still function.) Sorry I can't be more help (and I know many doctors are useless with long-term pain). I'd try osteopathy first if you haven't already.

Your doctor can prescribe something like diclofenac plus you can take paracetamol alongside. Pilates is very good for this sort of problem as it helps strengthen the core muscles. If it does not recover well you can be given injections which take the pain away for a few weeks so you can get back on your feet. It depends what happens after that. I sympathise and know what it is like totally. Hope all goes well.
