pain relief for toothache

General information really. Noted toothache mentioned on the shouty thread in activ convos.

My dentist advises crunching an aspirin between your teeth. It tastes utterly disgusting but you'll not mind if you're toothache is really bad and it does help (if only a little). I recall that aspirins are otherwise not really recommended for self-medication nowadays but I was in REALLY bad pain and would do anything for relief.

I also found that oil of cloves, or even biting a whole clove on the offending tooth, relieves the pain - and they really really taste disgusting.

hmm you shouldn't take aspirin without water because it can burn you... my mum's friend severely burned her throat from swallowing one without water

As far as I'm aware aspirin is damaging to enamel. Though I have also been given this tip in the past.

No point fannying about with toothache imo. 2x Paramol and a Cupranol - makes EVERYTHING better.

geordieminx · 29/03/2010 20:47

disolvable co-codimol got me through 3 wisdom teeth out under GA, infected jaw, and 3 bouts of root canal.

kissyfurschaos · 29/03/2010 20:50

swishing warmish salt water for at least two mins doubled with painkillers.

Ambersol liquid, pain killers and some of that temporary filling until you and get to your dentist.

Love the suggestion vis cupranol. Am assuming its a typo, have no idea what it is really but am guessing if its that good it must be 'banned in all eu countries' (copyright father ted!)

bosch your dentist is giving very dodgy advice there, about the aspirin. I have seen some nasty burns in the mouth from people who tried this

Neurofen Plus 4 hourly plus whisky mouthwashes as required.
