Optician has told a friend that her DD eye problem could be caused by foreign genes?

Anyone heard of this?

erm, probably not what you were looking for but have you watched the unborn?
Does the optician mean chimeraism?

AuntieMaggie · 26/03/2010 21:19

No I haven't. It could be he didn't mean foreign as in not english I guess.

Am stumped as to how an optician would know that the issue is the result of chimeraism though!

Isn't a virus a foreign gene or two?! Surely there are some scientists out there who could answer this... Viruses can certainly affect our DNA and alter the expression of our genes, can't they? When in doubt, blame a virus, I say. Or a few bacteria. Or, of course, she was born with it.

I think you need to go back and get more information...

Maybe he meant a foreign body? (ie a bit of grit, or glass or something)

WeeShuggy · 27/03/2010 09:15

I think it means foreign as in something that's not where it normally is ITSWIM. It definitely doesn't mean foreign as in from another country!

I'm sure someone with more knowledge of biology will be along soon...
