a feeling that you need to poo, and when you come back you have diarrohea? It's like it jiggles about and mushes up - ewww! Tell me I'm not alone!

Megletwantsittobesummer · 24/03/2010 22:13

yes, its very common apparently.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 24/03/2010 22:14

Do you remember the tale of Paula Radcliffe in the olympics about 6 years ago? She had to stop on the side of the road and poop??

fartmeistergeneral · 24/03/2010 22:14

Ooh, a couple of times there's been quite a lot of blood too (which I've got a referral about), and I wondered if the poo was kind of scraping about the sides??

Have only recently started running (managed a couple of four minute runs amongst the walk a minute, run a minute session at the w/e) and have never experienced diarrhoea after run but did come back from run recently with the most awful constipation type pains...

fartmeistergeneral · 24/03/2010 22:15

Bosch, the reason I went to the docs was cos sometimes after running (not always) the pain I experience is akin to childbirth but in my rectal area.

hatwoman · 24/03/2010 22:18

not alone. very common. it's called runner's trots. the blood's not common though afaik. nor the pain. so worth getting checked out

Ivykaty44 · 24/03/2010 22:21

do you have piles? that may explain the blood, but you really need to get it checked out.

Any type of exhertion will get the bowls moving - water helps to make the poo squigey

hmc · 24/03/2010 22:29

BelledeChoc - I think Paula Radcliffe urinated by the side of the road rather than crapped ?

hatwoman · 24/03/2010 22:32

this came up on another thread. and apparently PR pooed. I hadn;t realised at the time but tinterweb seems pretty sure.

hmc · 24/03/2010 22:34

Yes - I just checked, you are right. She pooped. What a skanky cow! Medal on the cards or not, there's a bit (pun coming....) below the belt!

hmc · 24/03/2010 22:36

Fartmeister - no disrespect to you ; given that you wait and do the business in the privacy of your own loo!

I've never experienced an urge to poo when running - but I think that's because I always have a very early morning - shortly after waking - 'constitutional' and go running afterwards

Mirrorball · 24/03/2010 22:42

Try running on treadmill at gym then going on the vibrogym plates... that is WEIRD and you really have to use your, um, muscles in a clenching way IYKWIM ....!!!!!!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 24/03/2010 22:45

Poop!

purplepeony · 25/03/2010 10:44

paula radcliffe peed not pooed!

hatwoman · 25/03/2010 13:38

not convinced...i thought she blamed it on eating the wrong stuff.

fartmeistergeneral · 25/03/2010 15:36

hmmm thought she peed too, James Cordon made ref to it in his sport relief thing

beatiebow · 25/03/2010 19:18

This mentions Paula

Wallace · 25/03/2010 19:35

Paula Radcliffe also pooed in her pants when she was running the marathon in Athens. Deliberately

I have had runners' trots on occasion, but glad you're getting the bleeding checked out.

hmc · 25/03/2010 20:57

That's right Wallace - she pooed in Athens and had to throw away her faecal covered white gloves (filthy hoo-er), and she peed in the London Marathon.

I threw up by the road side one when running - but that was completely involuntary and since I am in a the country, I did manage to hide behind a bush!

myfaceisatomato · 26/03/2010 15:39

Yep runners trots. Very common. The bleeding is caused I think by irritation in the digestive tract caused by the jiggling about - I get it too, but if I stop running for any length of time eg when ill, it stops.

I also read the stuff in PR's autobio about Athens - was very graphic.

There was also a female winner of the London Marathon a few years ago whose shorts had - umm - go faster stripes .... can't remember her name.

myfaceisatomato · 26/03/2010 15:43

You may not like this by the way, but avoiding alcohol and chocolate can help!

OrmRenewed · 26/03/2010 15:44

Yes. It's horrible. Either run near public loos or some deserted fields with nice thick hedges
