Ovulation and Low Energy

Anyone know if you generally feel really weary during ovulation?

I was doing my usual swim today and I was so knackered after only 20mins, that I had to get out. I was literally so tired that I couldn't carry on; not puffed out but my limbs were heavy and felt like I couldn't hold them up in the water. Usually I swim about 22, 50m lengths in about 35 minutes and get out feeling refreshed and perky, slightly out of breath and what I would think was normal.

My periods are usually only about 3 weeks apart and I usually ovulate a couple of days after my period stops (I thought this was weird and thought it should be spaced apart more). This week though, during ovulation, I've been shattered but wondering if this is common or whether it's something else like anaemia or just plain tiredness.

I normally have more energy at ovulation and less during my period, although I get mittelschmertz (painful ovulation), so don't necessarily feel at my most bouncy on the actual day! Ovulation normally takes place about 2 weeks before your period starts, and at an indeterminate amount of time after your period finishes (ie if your periods are always very close together, you probably will be ovulating shortly after your period has stopped, as otherwise your periods wouldn't be only 3 weeks apart).

That's what I thought about the spacing thing. Hmm - I did think I should have more energy but I too have terrible ovulation pain when even walking hurts and feels like I'm being stabbed! I take pain killers though but my energy sin't normally less. Oh well - perhaps I'm just coming down with some virus. Thanks for replying rabbit.

i to start ovulating a couple of days after period stops ...i go a 24/25 day cycle to ....

get the full feeling around ovulation to then the egg white stuff ...then a clear week or so then period time again ...

anyone els ?

policywonk · 12/04/2010 17:13

I definitely have less energy for exercise when I'm ovulating (whereas the day before my period starts I can go like the Duracell bunny). I used to notice it hugely when I went to the gym regularly. It's something to do with progesterone I think.

choclab · 12/04/2010 17:17

just finished my period now and feeling tired ... maybe thats why ...plus rushing round with kids as still off ....

luciemule · 14/04/2010 22:29

Thanks guys - just realised after you said that choclab - because I ovulate so soon after period, I reckon it's because I've lost lots of blood during my period; not necessariy because I'm ovulating. Could make sense as I am wondering if I'm a bit anaemic. So Policy, can I do something to increase prgesterone after period then - maybe extra something in diet???

i have no idea about that one , why d you think you need to ?

i take from tescos fizzy thing , Vit B complex i think its called for energy , has all the Bs in there as thats what us ladies need from time to time ..
or you could go to see doc to hve hormone levels checked with BT and check iron stores to .
If you have heavy period i think will be tired after , i am and i think thats why .

luciemule · 15/04/2010 09:45

good idea - Vit bs I mean. I asked about increasing progresterone because you said it was a lack of it that makes us tired around ovulation.

I feel noticeably more tired just before and during ovulation and also get stabbing mittelschmerz pains sometimes so bad it's hard to walk!! But I usually take painkillers too although still some residue of pain.

I also get increased digestive problems before and during ovulation.

The upside is that I feel like a cat on heat just before ovulation.

I also feel quite tired in a different way during and after period but quite energised before.

Have never got any of this investigated but do have fibroids and have had anaemia due to heavy periods.

My cycle is quite regular though.

luciemule · 15/04/2010 13:54

Hmm - I had two fibroids but then lost a lot of weight and I assume they shrank. Now though, I've put lots of weioght back on and ovulation pains and period pains worse again. Blokes don't get all this crap!

male gp took great delight in telling me that one of my fibroids size of baby's head - I have resisted a hysterectomy and prob too old now for myomectomy plus the recovery time from both I believe about 6 weeks - as a single parent I can't really out of action.

They should also shrink at menopause

luciemule · 15/04/2010 14:48

Blimey - he wasn't subtle was he?!
I am imagining how much pain that must cause though. Yes - they should shrink at menopause as they're oestrogen fed. That's why mine shrank when I lost weight.

it doesn't seem to cause pain but I do wonder what it would feel like if it wasn't there, IKKWIM
