Hi all im wondering if anyone can give me some advice please. I had a shoulder operation last friday the 19th. I was under for about 2 hours.

I came round from it quickly and felt fine but since then i have been totally drained and tired all the time. Ive got no appatite either. Ive lost nearly a stone in weight since friday. not a bad thing though .

Has anyone got any tips or advice on how i can get some energy back and start feeling normal again. ive got to start physio this friday so need some energy.

TIA

Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling so rough. Whenever I've had GAs i've always felt completely wiped out and needed a good 24hours of almost constant sleeping to get back to normal (almost like trying to get over jetlag, which also affects me badly).
However, I've never had such a long lasting effect as you've had and I find the large weight loss a bit worrying too as it is an awful lot to lose in 4/5 days. Could you try some of the old fashioned things like lucozade or glucose tablets to try and give you a bit of a boost as a quick fix? Lack of food won't be helping you recover your energy and you might be getting into a bit of a cycle of no enery ==> no appetite ==> no eating ==> no energy.

If I were you I'd look to get in touch with either the consultant that did the op or your GP to find out if you are having some kind of adverse/allergic reaction.

If it helps, I think it takes me about 3wks to get a GA out of my system - at least a week feeling really tired and lifeless, but gradually improving. Don't ever have the issue with weight loss though (unfortunately) - perhaps you should contact your Dr and find out if this is normal - and are you drinking enough fluids.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Gosh, it seems I am lucky then. I recover from GA's almost instantly. I'd take the other posters advice and contact your doctor.

just to update you all im back in hospital on a dripnow. they think the sickness could be a reacton to the anasthetic and medication. So they have put me on a drip to replace fluids and see if they can get to the bottom of it.
