"Minor" car accident last Wednesday - worried by some symptoms.

Sorry, this will be a bit long to start with but I probably need to give a bit of background .

Last Wednesday (17th) I was at a standstill in my car (Seat Alhambra) when it was hit from behind by a Peugeot 307. I don't know what speed it was doing but we were not in a queue and I am fairly certain they were doing a fair speed as my car was pushed a few feet up the road. I hit the back of my head on the headrest but at the time had no significant pain. I did have a brief moment where my vision "flashed" whilst standing up but no problems since.

I went to my GP later that morning as I developed numbness in the little finger of my left hand and pain around my left hip - this has since gone. She checked me out and advised some exercises and painkillers. Thursday and Friday I felt not too bad considering but started to feel ill Friday evening. Early hours of Saturday morning I was sick and spent the day in bed feeling pretty grim with flu-like symptoms (could be a red-herring though). I haven't been sick since and can eat fine but feel nauseous on and off.

The thing that has worried me the most is that when I stand up for any length of time I start to feel "spaced out" and the left side of my face starts to go numb, mostly around the corner of my mouth and along my jaw. I did go to a&e yesterday but by the time I got seen it had worn off . It was only from doing the school run this morning I realised that being on my feet triggers it.

My question is, do I sit it out and wait as it may just need time (I have no pain), go back to the GP (who will probably tell me it needs more time ),or go straight to a chiropractor/osteopath?

No doubt somebody will tell me I'm over-reacting which is why I thought I'd ask the wisdom of MN before wasting any more of the NHS's time .

I think you should go back to GP as it could be nothing but at least it will put your mind at rest and will get it on record incase you need to claim for treatment from the person who hit you.

I think you can get some numbness and dizziness as a result of whiplash injury? I would go back to your GP and check, though.

Thanks, I have been googling . I just felt like the doctor looked at me like I was wasting their time yesterday but knowing my luck if I ignore something that seems trivial it'll be far more serious!

Definately GP - and tell your insurers. They might send you to a specialist for assessment.

definitely see your GP. It's most likely nothing to worry about, but you do need to be seen, and it does need to go on your record.
