Hypoplasia

I recently took 7 year old son to dentist, who said he had brown spots on back teeth due to something called hypoplasia (i think that's what she called it). She said it means the enamel on his teeth has not formed properly in places but it should get stronger as he gets older. She said it is a condition which he probably had before birth. I of course looked it up on the internet and it seems to be something suffered by children with malnutrition ! Now I'm worried. He has a normal diet and eats plenty. I ate a normal diet when I was pregnant. Is there possibly other problems he may have due to this condition that haven't come to light yet ? Am I completely paranoid ? Has anyone else heard of this condition ?

Hello, my 6yo DD was diagnosed with hypoplasia this week. I failed to ask any useful questions because I was completely unprepared and didn't have a clue where to start.

The dentist did say it could have been caused by illness in either pregnancy or infanthood, or taking some drugs (certain sorts of antibiotics I think), lack of vitamin D etc. but I can't put my finger on what may have caused my DD's problem.

I'm feeling awfully guilty, as if there was something I could have done to prevent this.

I'll wait and read any other posts with interest, if you don't mind me piggy-backing on your thread.
