Friend with Breast Cancer

Found out yesterday that a good friend has Breast cancer, she has to have chemo (had the lump off 2 weeks ago).

I'd like to send her a gift (she lives a long way away).

Can anyone suggest anything - maybe something that wil help while she is undergoing Chemo?

Weegiemum - something I found great while having chemo was audiobooks - sometimes you feel too tired to read or watch TV, and they are a good way of losing yourself.

I also enjoyed fruit teas and little snacks like dried apricots raisins etc. to nibble. (although tastes are quite individual I think)

Also simple though it sounds I loved getting cards/letters from friends and family, and a few photos - I put them all up on my dressing table and it was an ongoing reminder that everyone was supporting me.

Good luck to your friend. If she would like online support we are very friendly on the tamoxifen thread

Jar of Lifemel honey? It - I am sure with a whole load of medical help and other things - helped a close friend of mine stay really pretty well throughout her treatment for breast cancer.

Wishing your friend all the best.

Friend of mine had breast cancer last year. She doesn't live too far away (I was able to go to a couple of chemo sessions with her) but I don't see her that often.

What I did do, however, was make a point of phoning her A LOT - at least every week. Not to talk about cancer (although we did) but to chat about all sorts of shit. She said to me afterwards that that meant more to her than getting random bunches of flowers.

Really hope your friend has a full recovery - mine did and is now better than ever.

Funny movie on DVD, or funny book to read. Anything with a big feel-good factor.

When my neighbour was having Chemo and didn't want me visiting due to all the bugs dc always have I used to put little funny notes through her door or drawings the kids had done - she said it really brightened her day up having the odd little surprise and piece of news about other peoples lives. She also suffered with dry skin so perhaps some nice creams would be a nice present. What about a magazine subscription - mags are not as heavy going to read and its a present that lasts over a long period of time.

Think main problem is every one rallys round at start then people drift off and your still left being ill so regular phone calls etc will mean she knows you are always thinking of her.

a bottle of M&S champaign.

Tell her its for her to open when her treatment is finished and when she is better, its to celebrate her full recovery.
