I have just booked an eye test and it turned out i am on yearly recall and this only happens if that is a problem.

When i had the exam the optician said there was no problem, but as expected, i needed glasses. New opticians and quite a few years since last ones done.

Been trying to get back in touch with them (tesco) but the woman said that there was something written on my card but she couldnt understand it - she said IF the optician on duty would decipeher it he would get back to me??

WTF??? I suffer from health anxiety and im about pulling my hair out now.

Please someone tell me that if he had picked up something awful he would have told me at the time?? Very worried, feel sick, not sure if taken my meds(citalopram) or not but feel very anxious indeed. Wish i never made the appt, only did so because i want new glasses because these tesco ones, despite beind designer frames, are shit.

Please don't post anything worrying, will tip me over the edge - i'm literally shaking with fear as it is

Come on, try and be calm and rational. do you honestly believe that if it were something serious they'd ahve sent you off and not said anything / referred you etc etc?

Of course not - they'd be sued every week if they did that to people with serious problems. You know that really.

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 14:15

but what if it was something potentially serious but they didnt want to worry me??

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 15/03/2010 14:19

it'll be fine

optician said there's no problem

so there obv isn't

(NB you need a box with compartments for each day so you can be sure if you have taken meds or not - any pharmacy will have them)

waitingforbedtime · 15/03/2010 14:20

So theyd just send you off and not mention it? Thats not how the world works - imagine if you hadnt called to book the eye test or you had ignored the recalls (as I often do)...they cant rely on people coming back.

Call them back and ask to speak to an optician about what the problem is if you want but seriously, Im sure its nothing.

My husband has to go back but its because he has contacts and they need yearly reviews so its not always a bad reason.

MrsBadger · 15/03/2010 14:20

health professionals don;t usually dissemble as far as hiding stuff 'because they don;t want to worry you'

if there's a problem they will tell you
if there's not they won;t

muriel76 · 15/03/2010 14:23

Medics can't send people off for a year because they "don't want to worry them" if they think something is wrong!! No-one would ever know they were ill would they!

You need to calm down, I'm sure everything is fine, but as you are so upset I think you should ring them back and explain and ask them to a) find someone who can read it and knows what it means b) get that person to call you back.

Then they can put your mind at rest.

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 15:41

i spoke to the optician and tbh im even more worried now - he said that the other optician noticed some "spots" on the back of my eyes but wasn't overly concerned as this may be "normal" for me - but needed monitoring to ensure it wasnt something developing hmm I asked why i wasn't told at the time - he said and i quote "he probably didn't want to worry me" I have bought my eye test forward to tomorrow morning, but am really worried. He did say that the optician wasn't concerned as my eyesight is good - it can't be that good, i coujldnt see to type this without my glasses!!!angry

I am just worried it could be something really sinister - but surely if there was even a suggestion of that (the C word) they would have told me and made a refferal, even if it was something that would only develop with time - also it was both eyes.

V pissed off, i think if there is a problem then i should be informed about it

Hello Mscombobulated ...((hug)))

Reading your thread is like reading something i would write ... i to suffer with health anx ... and do know exactly how your feeling ..

but please try not to worry , how long ago was your last test when she/he saw these spots on the back of eyes?
I do think if there was any chance was anything sinister they would have double checked or ran more tests or recalled you in a couple of months .

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 16:12

well choclab is was over a year ago, i ignored the recall letter because i didnt want to go back to tesco cos their glasses are rubbish, but i thought the optician was very thorough at the time. He said that it was something that often needs to be viewed a year later to see if there are any changes - i am so angry with myself - i thought i had got over this anxiety - have been on medication for two years and thought i was doing ok, but the slightest thing puts me off course and its back to square one.

The guy mentioned macular degeneration - off to the google button i went, I did some sort of online test for it - and i seemed ok but am because im too young for what is an age related condition, im 39 - everyone in my family has rubbish eyes though.

fucking hellfucking fucking hell - will someone please slap me

OP posts:
choclab · 15/03/2010 16:25

Firstly DONT google.... worse thing for us HA suffers .. the advice given on theses sights can not be accurate in everyones case ..it doesnt take into account your age , other health issues , age or family history ..

rabbitstew · 15/03/2010 17:09

Well, it probably won't make you feel better, but it certainly sounds like it's your health anxiety doing the talking. If I'd been told what you'd been told, I don't think I'd be feeling that anxious, although I would want a clearer explanation of what it means if the spots have got worse over the last year (on the basis that they clearly don't think you should be worried if they haven't got any worse). And this post is from someone who is prone to worrying about things.

teasle · 15/03/2010 17:12

Why oh for godness' sake WHY have you started TWO threads on this?

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 17:22

because teasle, im a bit of a nutter i do feel more logical about it now and i have appointment for the morning - wont be googling, i have learnt my lesson well believe me.

HATE HA its fucking crippling sometimes

OP posts:
choclab · 15/03/2010 17:26

wheres the other thread ...

MrsBadger · 15/03/2010 17:29

and buy one of thosre boxes

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 17:35

please don't be choco - i just started the other thread because i wanted a quick response as i was verging on the edge of a panic attack I know it must seem a bit attention seeking but its just that i was feeling scared - sorry

what boxes badger?

OP posts:
choclab · 15/03/2010 17:39

thats ok , hope your a little calmer now ..
and all goes ok tomorrow for you .

MrsBadger · 15/03/2010 18:31

this kind of thing

so you know if you've taken that day's meds

Mscombobulated · 15/03/2010 18:35

d'oh - of course i remember now!! i have tablets in a blister pack im just a bit rubish about taking from the right day because they fall to bits and i end up with days all over the place - a bit like my life just now, so maybe one of those boxes would be a good idea.

Thankyou everyone for listening to me - i feel a bit more logical about it now, if there's a problem i'll deal with it, if i were about to pop my clogs i guess they might have told me by now!

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 16/03/2010 08:32

Good luck for this morning, Come back and let us know how it went.

Mscombobulated · 16/03/2010 11:47

UPDATE Well, of course, i feel a fool grin Should of gone to spec savers!! The woman there was lovely and thorough and explained everything as she went along because i told her i was anxious. She said i had some small "drusen" spots on one of my eyes NOT both and that it was nothing to worry about and they wouldn't need me on yearly recall. The guy at Tesco was pretty young so probably not very experienced. She said that she would have told me though because there was nothing to worry about.

So, I have new glasses on order - nice bright shiney purple ones and they only cost me £20 because im on tax credits so its all good

Thanks again - i can see how illogical i was yesterday, in fact when i woke up this morning i was fine, i did have to take my bachs rescue remedy with me but i didnt need it!

OP posts:
choclab · 16/03/2010 15:04

Glad all went well for you Mscom....

you can now look forward to getting your new jazzy glasses now .

health anx ...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
