severe pain on side of head?

have tried googling but all I have come up with is brain tumours but I don't think its that so wondered if anyone had any bright ideas...

Basically my DH is 31 and is fairly fit and healthy. No underlying medical problems apart from really severe hayfever in the summer. He has been acting a bit strange for the last 2/3 weeks-really snappy and arguementative for no reason and it all came to a head yesterday when he say he's been in agony for over 2 weeks with pain on one side of his head.

Its not a headache and is there all the time-painkillers don't do anything for it and he is describing it as really really tender and painful in one specific spot which is on the left hand side half way up between the top of his head and his ear...if that makes any sense at all.

If I touch it he says it really hurts whereas if its not touched its just a bad aching. Im at a loss as to what it could be-there is nothing actually visable...no raised bit/spot or anything and tbh its actually really worrying me. He literally doesn't ever get ill and never says anything hurts (with the exception of kidney stones when he was crying like a baby bless him!) so he really must be in a lot of pain for it to be worrying him. Have made an appointment at GP's but its not until thursday.

Only other things to mention is that he does have quite a busy stressful job which involves travelling and he came back from Dubai on friday night. Normally he is absolutely fine and has no jet lag (the flight isn't actually that long) but he is exhausted and has slept for 12 hours fri/sat/sun night which is very unusual for him. My gut feeling when he first told me was that it was stress related but there is an actual pyschical point on his head which is tender/painful and Im pretty sure stress wouldn't cause that although I might be wrong.

Any suggestions?

neuralgia or trigeminal neuralgia possibly. Go and get him checked out as constant head pain shouldnt be ignored

Nope not as far as I know but then he isn't really one for taking tablets...me on the other hand take them for absolutely anything!! He did say he'd taken some paracetamol but that didn't do anything but I don't think he's tried Ibuprofen so will get him to do so tonight.

I can't get an appointment until thursday-do u think its a hospital job (ie how serious is it-am now off to google!) or would it be ok to wait until then? I honestly thought it was just stress at first but am getting more and more worried to be honest.

I had something similar sounding last year - like a hot pain between my ear and the top of my head on the left side. (It also happened to be a particularly stressful part of my life - DH mde redundant and had to move house) The first time I felt it I felt like I was going to pass out. It went on for weeks and I saw my dotor a few times who ruled out any reason to think it was anything sinister. Eventually I was referred to neurologist and diagnosed with 'ice pick headache'. They could have prescribed me something to help with it but i was pregnant by the time i saw a consultant so couldn't take anything. Then it just seemed to suddenly clear up on its own.
Apparently most headaches/head pain are unexplained and not a sign of anything serious so don't worry, but don't let the GP dismiss it if you and your DH are not happy.
