Paget's disease of nipple - anyone know much about this?

I just googled, which has not helped... I am 42, and 29 weeks pregnant, during my last pregnancy I had eczema on my nipple, so assumed same this time round but TBH, can't remember what it looked or felt like. this is a small white crusty patch, hard to describe. Saw my GP on Friday, and she used to be a dermatologist, so has presumably seen more cases of this than most GPs. She said Paget's doesn't usually look like this and to treat as eczema, with betnovate, for two weeks but if not cleared up, will refer for breast screening. I cheered up. However, have been awake since early hours with toothache, which has not helped my Monday morning positiveness. So got up and googled - macmillan website and others describe starting point as scaling or flaking. And although it's rare generally, women who have children late in life, like me, are more likely to have it. There's no improvement with the betnovate, and it usually works almost immediately IME. So now I think I should go back to GP by end of week and ask to reassess. Any thoughts please?

hi , I had itchy nipple like yours 4 yrs ago which was investigated for pagets.
Turned out mine was eczema and I know have it on both nipples .
Not much info on it I am afraid but just to reassure you that eczema can start in one nipple only which is what is flagging up pagets to your GP.
I would go back for reassurance and ask for it to be investigated sooner just to relieve your anxiety.
Btw hydrocortisone does nothing for my nipples either.

Thanks ggirl - now that I have been out in the sunshine and am also about to go to get my tooth sorted out at the dentist, my perspective-ometer is working a bit better, so your experience has helped. I know my GP would have referred me instantly to breast clinic if she thought it was likely to be paget's - she said her threshold of referring is very low. I will bring forward my appointment with her by a few days though.

Thank you MAS, that was helpful. I think the problem was that I raced ahead to a point where I could see no alternative other than that this turns out to be breast cancer. I can see from the experience of other women I know that my outlook would probably be fine, but it was the thought that in 9 weeks or less I'll have a new baby and this is one of times in life when I really want my breasts to be available! I will give the eczema treatment time to work - GP did say that nipple eczema is persistent, so it's not a good idea for me to go rushing back in a tizz, and she's following exactly the clinical advice for a woman of my age. And I won't google or peer obsessively at my boobs for the next week! Thanks again.
