Could ds have swine flu?

Ds1 is nearly 5 years old and was rushed off to hospital by ambulance last Sunday with a temp of 104 which was still rising.
He has a history of febrile convulsions which is why we didnt take any chaces with the temp.
His temp finally settled whilst at A&E thanks to a much larger dosage of paracetamol and ibuprofen (they worked the dosage out on ds weight rather than age- and he is a tall lad).
A consultant came to examine him, he diagnosed an ear infection and gace him antibiotics but said he was sure that wasnt the only problem he asked us to drop off a urine sample to our doctors in the morning so it could be sent away to be tested.
We had a rough night with ds as his temp kept shooting up to 104 then dropping, took the urine sample round to the docs in the morning in the sample bottles supplied by hosp.
I phoned for the results a few days later and was told the testing wasnt done as the bottles were labled incorrrectlyaarrgghhhh-i explained all ds details were on the sticker and that that was the bottle that had been supplied by hosp and as he had started the antibiotics his urine now couldnt be tested.
He has a a week of high temp and feeling rough, he kept stretching his arms and legs a lot as he said they felt odd.
Yesterday his temp finally came and stayed down and was ooking a bit better but this morning he has woken up with a runny nose and cold symptoms.
Can the runny nose ever come AFTER the temp with swine flu?
Sorry it's so long...

I have no idea if your ds has swine flu,. but will be watching this thread, as he sounds like my dd (nearly 5) this weekend. She was feverish (not 104, but still quite high) from thur pm to sunday am, then developed blocked runny nose and is floppy and tired. Has insisted on going to school, but am fully expecting her to be sent home early. Never even thought of swine flu. Hmm......

tbh it never even crossed my mind till a friend suggested it.
Hope your dd feels better soon.
Lets hope we get some answers.

No, she was fine in that dept.... your ds sounds as though he was definitely more poorly than dd (no trips to a&e for instance....). Just feverish for 2-3 days, exhausted, floppy and stroppy...! Now a blocked nose as well (finds it hard to get to sleep at night when lying down).

DD had same symptoms as your son by the look of it. She had 40.6 degrees Celsius fever, never had then in her life so far. this was with maximum calpol and calprofen and sponging. However, she was vaccinated against swine flu in December. she improved after having taken anti biotics for three times then fever started to come down, so might have been something bacterial, but GP did not know what it could be. Now still off colour with cold and cough (almost 2 weeks later).
