Stress incontinence - TVT

Hi all, could do with some support / advice please! Have been suffering from some degree of stress incontinence ever since had ds 9 years ago (not made any worse by having dd 7 years ago) and up to now have managed to get by with various phases of physio etc, but got steadily much worse from 2 years ago. Anyway, no amount of physio would help so delayed a further two years till sure not planning any more children and dd well out of the realms of wanting to be carried etc, and had a TVT tape done at the end of last week.

The thing is, I am worried because:

  1. it really hurts and I have been sent home with no recovery instructions at all - at the appointment where consultant agreed to do it, he said no driving 2 weeks, no heavy lifting 6 weeks but other than that nothing mentioned at all, no letter to take home etc. So, while dh being helpfulish and kids, where they can, I have been carrying on as normal but obviously not lifting anything unduly heavy etc. So have searched on here this morning and people who have had similar are talking about being told to lift nothing heavier than book, duster, not lift full kettle etc, weeks off work etc. Help! Am really worried about undoing the work I've had done. Another example is washing - ask someone else to carry big bundle of washing down then I kneel down to sort and load etc but that does hurt - is that normal because have had an op or is that damaging the work?

  2. Am worried it hasn't worked anyway as still feels dodgy when I sit down - I guess all I can do here is wait till things settle down and see where I'm at.

Aaaargh. Thank you for any advice

hi i was just wondering how you recovered and whether you would recommend the surgery?
i am looking to have it next year as i have severe stress incontinence after a traumatic birth 5 months ago...
thanks in advance :D

Do not do anything! I was told nothing heavier than a book for weeks. Please sit down a rest.

If it hurts to do it stop, you're going to be sore and inflammed please take it easy.

hi, have you recovered from your tvt yet? I think you were probably trying to do far too much. I had surgery in February and did nothing for one week and then very little for a further week. I appreciate im lucky, my children are older and my mum moved in and virtually took over. I took 2 weeks off work and driving and then very very slowly tried to get back to normal. I felt a lot worse than i expected, whatever you are told i think you need to give your body at least 6 weeks to feel anywhere near normal again. However, several months on i feel fabulous, id forgotten how it is not to worry about leaks. What a relief, id do it again in a minute. Good luck golfgirl, hope it goes well for you.
