hi am a nurse who carries out these type of procudures. You could have laser/IPL or try Obagi products which your derm. will need to prescribe

choclab · 08/03/2010 08:20

thanks , i dont know what either of those are ...he gave me some cream to try called melanorm, i tried for few days but it made my skin a little sore and red so i stopped .

I am a little worried as when i went to him i was concerned about a small red spot right next to a sun damage spot ,

he told me was not Sc , and would take another look in 2 months also to see how iv done with the cream , i have bought appt closer as the spot still there , it went and now back , i have many pimple type things on my skin and some are always there , this one doesnt itch or look angry red or weep or bleed .....

either way i want it gone ......

so im still hoping will be ok .....but i am worried

and hoping if is bad caught early will be ok ..

thanks for listening

These type of creams will make your skin a bit sensitive you could try using it every other day, it will take a number of weeks before you see an improvement. You need to be using a good SPF as well and actively avoiding any sun exposure.
I wouldn't worry about the red spot if he has looked at it and said it's OK

choclab · 08/03/2010 12:41

thanks , yes i should try again i think with cream and maybe just on brown spots ...i am a bit of a worrier .... he did say the spot not Sc but as i have sun damage there so i figure could be , im going back next week so he will look again .

i wear fac 50 at all times , and the rest of body covered always or in shade , i had a top to toe body mole scanning done last oct was all ok .

is the lazer treatment effective and permanent ?

Difficult to predict any UV exposure and pigmentation in the skin can return

choclab · 08/03/2010 16:27

so if i have lazer it may come back in time ?

its quite expensive to ....but i done mind if it will go or at least be better .

i was also thinking about a chemical peel ..like aplha Beta Peel or Caci Ultra , do you know anything about theses sorts of procedures ?

thanks

You could try Fraxel or if you'd like to evade the laser, go and have a Green Peel. The latter worked for me and did yield great results. Did have to use high sunscreen after for months and months...yes the nasty spots can come back.

I did look less wrinkled and more even skin toned though, lovely result for about £200. Took 3 days until my skin had peeled and looked slightly sunburnt the first night but well worth it.

choclab · 08/03/2010 21:06

thanks kitty is that the name of it green peel ? is it green ?

i really feel i want to do something as at moment i wear so much make up to cover all my blemishes and sun damage
dont know where to start ...

im going next week to see dermatoogist , hope can point me in right direction ..

Haven't heard of green peel. Obagi do a blue peel, it's called that because it is a fetching shade of blue!
Fraxel would be excellent for tightening the skin and treating acne scaring, not sure the effect on sun damage.
Let us know what happens with derm.

topsi · 09/03/2010 07:24

PS I don't rate Caci it is more of a beauty company and it's treatments probably not very strong, but it does depend on what you are looking for.

choclab · 09/03/2010 08:21

thanks topsi , will let u know when iv seen him ..

i know from the leaflet i have from the clinic they do ..

Vascular Diode 532 laser

cyden Diode Pulsed light Laser

Lumenis Quantum laser
and ipl

does that mean something to you ?

OP posts:
topsi · 09/03/2010 09:03

Have heard of Lumenis, think they are a good compamy. I guess the vascular laser is specifically for treating veins and the like, not sure about the other one could be for hair removal.

Blue Peel is chemical, Green Peel is a herbal one. It really depends on your skin type. I would only go to an experienced practitioner and not bargain on any treatment like this!

Mine was www.schrammek.de/green-peel.html Unforch it's in German, but maybe you find more info on google UK on her. I still use the products after a sun burn and swear by them, very good on my skin and great healing/soothing effect. I had my peel done in Copenhagen, Dk, 4 years ago. It is a green herbal paste, a kind of scrub that is rubbed onto your skin (eye area is spared), then a slight musselin cloth is put onto your face and continually drenched with a fluid (herbal toner). It doesn't heard but it was a bit uncomfortable after about 30 mins as you could feel your skin getting tender from the scrub. Then it was over and a soothing cream applied. I went home looking like I'd been in the sun a wee bit too long. That look intensified in the evening and over night so I looked a bit sun burnt pinkish the next day, then red and my face swell up slightly (like water under the skin) which is totally normal. The next day the peeling started. DO NOT PULL ANY PEELING SKIN OFF!!! It has to come off by itself, even if you look like a flaky chapped oven potatoe

After 3 days the peeling had nearly stopped and as I continued to apply the cream and a tinted moisturizer by Schrammek I could 'hide' the last patches of flakiness. The dark spots were gone and most of the fine lines, too. I looked like I'd been on holiday and slept really well. I'm glad I did the herbal peel and didn't resort to the chemical one which I believe is something you should look at when you're older and need more effort to achieve the same results. Choose your practitioner carefully.

For Fraxel I'd recommend my doctor in London: Dr. Rita Rakus behind Harrods, pricey but she knows what she's doing. I haven't tried that myself but I had lip injections and was very happy with her and the clinic in general. Interesting people in the waiting room

kittyonthebeam · 09/03/2010 09:52

it doesn't hurt, not heard...

oh dear...sry

choclab · 09/03/2010 11:32

thank you both , very interesting , iv seen some kind of peel thing done on that program 10 years younger and the flaking ski etc you describe kitty , and they looked fab after wards ,i really would like to get my skin in better condition but is so confusing what to try first , i use very good mosuriser , toner day/night cream / serum the lot but its still very dehydrated and bad .

I suggest you see a dermatologist first and speak to him about it. He can assess your skin's needs and recommend which peel might be best suited. Best to do the peel after the summer though, when there's less intense light and you're not tanning, etc

Would not recommend any whitening creams, the concentration is normally too low to make a difference.

Buy a book called: Don't go to the cosmetic's counter without me by Paula xxx (forgot the name but try amazon). Such a great help!

choclab · 10/03/2010 14:18
