Natural yogurt on a tampon is really good.

sausagepastie · 06/03/2010 20:21

I am sorry about your problem.

you can get the one where you take the thrush pill too (as well as using the cream)

or go to the doc and get canestan H (which has some hydrocortisone in) which can help if your skin has got inflamed down there too (though not sure you can use it on v intimate bits but on the outside bits - can't remember, best to ask)

TheProvincialLady · 06/03/2010 20:31

Vagisil cream will stop the itch immediately but you must treat the thrush too. You can get pessaries which are good but if it doesn't clear up in a day or two, or if you have had sex with someone new then you should see your GP. It sounds baaaaad, poor you.

waitingforbedtime · 06/03/2010 20:33

natural yog sounds like it wont work but it really really does.

meatntattypie · 06/03/2010 20:34

oooh no! ima very very married woman and we havent had sex for about 3 weeks, thrush just came from no where 4 days ago.

thank you for sympathy, its one of those things isnt it, yet i feel very embarrased about it.

Yes, get a fluconazole tablet from the chemist (own brand much cheaper), AND the pessary AND the cream. Attack on all fronts, and take some strong supplements with acidophillus in them.

meatntattypie · 06/03/2010 20:35

wil get some natch yog tomorrow, thanks for the tip, although the bit that apeals is that natch yog will be cold cos from the fridge...im on fire

wilkos · 06/03/2010 20:37

natural yog on tampon and on bits and left overnight

wear LARGE pants

yes its icky, but it works better than any cream

plantsitter · 06/03/2010 20:39

And boil wash your knickers - ad if they're not cotton knickers, wear cotton knickers immediately.

scardypants · 06/03/2010 20:40

Another vote for the yogurt, definately helps.

MoChan · 06/03/2010 20:42

Put a few drops of tea tree oil in a bath. And then get in it, obviously. Take acidophilus. Don't eat anything sugary.

SingleMum01 · 06/03/2010 20:52

are you sure its just thrush and not something else?

Kookie1 · 07/03/2010 16:47

I was thinking the same. Are you sure it is not something else? If fluconazole (diflucan or own brand) pill doesn't work, it is probably not thrush.

EggyAllenPoe · 07/03/2010 16:49

spend plenty of time on mumsnet to keep your hands busy....whilstwearing no knickers and lose over garments.

LadyPeterWimsey · 07/03/2010 16:58

I had the worst 'thrush' ('diagnosed' by my GP) ever - which turned out to be a massive infection. The gynae consultant, who I assume would be an infected fanjo expert, took a step back in horror when she saw mine.

If it's not getting better, it's best to go to the GP.

policywonk · 07/03/2010 16:59

Another vote for tea tree oil - is good for all manner of flora-type infections! Don't use too much though or it hurts your skin - maybe about 10 drops in a good-sized bath.

MoChan · 07/03/2010 20:26

I had chronic thrush (can't believe I am admitting it) at one stage for months (years?) on end, and diflucan did not work. It was thrush, though. So it is possible for diflucan and similar not to work, in my experience.

That said, there clearly is a possibility that it's something else, so you should check with a doctor.

The problem with thrush, of course, is that candida can be affecting your whole body, and the thrush is just the bit you can really see. I found I could only clear it by more 'natural' measures. I'm not given to preferring alternative/complimentary therapies, but I really didn't get it resolved with my doctor, and did get it resolved by temporary diet/lifestyle changes.

And tea tree oil, in my experience, is the only topical thing that had any lasting effect.

onepieceoflollipop · 07/03/2010 20:32

I had thrush (years ago) and sensibly (I thought) went on got the Canesten pessary and cream. (you need both; the cream to soothe the itching and the pessary to treat the actual root cause)

Anyway, the thrush got worse and worse and worse. I kept putting on generous amounts of the cream. It was so sort that the skin started to break down.

I went to the (lovely, female thank goodness) GP. She visibly squirmed and cringed and immediately diagnosed an allergy to the canesten.

I had to be signed off work I was a staff nurse on nights and it was impossible for me to wear pants or sit down for several days!

Hope you get it sorted soon.

lambanana · 08/03/2010 19:29

I second BOF and the fluconazole capsules. I have always suffered from thrush but a few months ago I had horrible red itchy bits elsewhere. Went the docs, described my symptoms and she declared me to be "full of fungus"!!!

Had a weeks course of fluconazole (3x50mg a day) and have been fine since but I do have an emergency supply for when I get that oh so familiar fanjo twinge.

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/03/2010 19:37

i used to get thrush which became canestan resistant. (overuse i think)

the only thing that ever worked was Miconazole cream.
