3 days of norovirus? normal?

my 18mo dd has had D&V since thursday. she seems fine in herself, a bit tired and subdued but fundamentally ok. she is eating and drinking and we are getting wet nasppies.

she was sick 4 times on thursday, once yesterday and once today and has had 4 nuclear nappies.

my mum thinks i should phone the gp, and nhs direct says to phone if it goes on more than 48 hours, but i don't really think there's anything they can do.

is it unusual for norovirus or similar to go on for this long?

we all had it 3 weeks ago - am dreading us catching it again as well!

bump. nhs direct are only taking "urgent" calls. I have filled in the initial assessment online and am waiting for a callback.

just looking for a bit of reassurance!

My 5yr old has this bug as well . It started at 2am on Friday morning and she is still throwing up now.
She is feeling thirsty and hungry and tries to eat things very slowly, but it all comes back up, even sips of water.
Just today she has been sick at least 12 times but does not have the runs.
She has not been bad with this since she was 2yrs old and she got dehydrated and had to go to hospital.
If she is not better by the morning then I'll contact NHS direct.

Dd1 had it for 2 days, was sick both nights. She also had it a few years ago (when she was 2) and it lasted for 4-5 days, we even sent her back to nursery as she went 48 hours without being sick and then it returned.

I called NHS direct 2 weeks ago when dd2 had it and was told to phone the GP to check for dehydration.

Am sure the vomiting would stop if you could stop feeding her for a good long stretch (I'd suggest 12 hours).

thanks all. have thought about not giving her food but all the other advice says to give her a light diet. she went 12 hours last night with no food - she didn't want any tea or bedtime milk.

My 17 m old just had sickness for 3 days but then pretty much refused food for the next 4 days as well - he was getting by on dry toast and a few slices of banana. We had to take him to the GP for something else last week and he said lack of appetite is no problem at all, just keep up the breastfeeds and give him food as and when he asks for it. (If you're not breastfeeding I'd avoid milk tbh as it's always the first thing that seemed to make mine sick).

He ate pretty much nothing for the 3 days he was sick, and I do think that helped him recover (having had it myself at the same time, you really don't feel like eating anyway).
