Doctor today took blood and said she wants to test for "underlying" causes. What could she be looking for?

This winter i have had infection after virus after cold etc etc. Lots of fevers. Unable to throw off bugs. I have been to the doctors when I have been really bad and they have seemed unconcerned but occassionally prescribed ABs.

I have now had a chest infection for over a week and did not respond to first course of ABs. Went back to doctor this morning. She gave me more ABs but said she wanted to do some tests to ascertain why I keep needing ABs. She also said my BP is high and my spleen feels slightly swollen (she felt my stomach).

Any ideas what could cause these symptoms?

Some kind of underlying infection? PLEASE don't worry, but - DH had similar a few years ago, was sent for a blood test and the minute it came back the GP called an ambulance as he had pneumonia. He was absolutely fine, but needed the right sort of abs fairly urgently.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks KMR. I know I shouldn't worry but I am just scared in case it's something really scarey. Trying v hard not to google...

Probably anaemia, thyroid, general infection...honestly, I'm a total health worrier so I sympathize, but I don't think she'd be looking for particularly sinister underlying causes. More the 'run down chronic' sort. HTH
