Hi there.

My 4 year ld has ongoing tonsillitis, it does not come and go, it is a permnanent fixture.

My dctor is really unwilling to refer her, even though I have done my reserch and more than 7 episods in a year qualifies her.

All he seems to want to do is pack her full of medicine.

I am now at the end of my tether, any ideas very very welcome.

How would I go about getting a second opionon?

Oh your poor daughter. I also spent my childhood with nasty bouts of tonsillitis, unable to swallow my own saliva let alone food, not nice!
My doctor at the time was also dead set against tonsil removal and my Mum did not push for a second opinion.
I am now in my 30's and thankfully puberty saw an end to the tonsillitis although my throte is still me weak point. (If I get a cold it always goes straight to my throte)
If you want a second opinion you should definatly push for one, your daughter will thank you for it.

I would go armed with your research and "demand" a referral - specialists are there for a reason, tonsilectomy or not is not the GP's call to make, the consultant will make that decision!! You could also bring some research about the damage / risks of repeated antibiotics.

OP, have you considered seeing a Homeopath, might be able to boost overall immunity, improve underlying health and allow you to deal with each bout of tonsilitis more gently and possibly more effectively. My DS had repeated ear infections and my opinion was it couldn't do any more harm the the antibiotics which were doing nothing to clear them up. While he is still not clear of infections all the time, the frequency has reduced significantly (every three weeks to three times per year) and we can treat each infection quickly and gently. (Grommits didn't work as didn't address overall weak immune system and sources of infection.)

Good Luck, which ever route you try!! (nothing to stop you doing both - we see an ENT consultant and a Homeopath regularly)

Okay, I know it's hard for wee ones to gargle, but get some tea-tree...it has to be 100% pure essential oil... 1 drop in a tumbler of water, shake vigorously with hand covering the cup...oil and water don't mix well...get youngster to gargle at back of throat and spit a few times throughout the day and I promise it'll be gone by tomorrow... He/she will probably cough up any white pustules that are present...
Post the results and let everybody know how wonderfully it worked and how astounded you are!!!
Any future sign of tonsillitis/strep throat etc can be treated the same, thus avoiding removal! Which is always a good thing!

Hi, Was wondering if you tried the Tea tree and the results you achieved??

As someone who had their tonsils removed at the ripe old age of 33 (on average 9 episodes per year over 3 years) - push hard for a referral to have them removed. After asking twice and being refused, I finally went in armed with research and was referred immediately. In the end, consultant couldn't believe GP had resisted for so long because in her opinion, my tonsils were so big and scarred there was no doubt in her mind they had to go.
