I hate to say it but my 5mnth DS has smelly breath. Is this a sign of anything? Should I brush his tooth? (He only has one!)

My ds3 did too at around that age. Don't know what it was all about - he's fine now and has been for a while (10.5 months).

It can be a sign of throat infection but it's probably not that.

yes you should brush his tooth (no need to use toothpaste at this stage) the smell is probably stale milk, try giving him a little water after his milk.

I've always brushed teeth too - right from the first one. he still had smelly breath though!

You should definitely brush his tooth if he has one, but smelly breath can often be caused by too little to drink. Try giving him some more water.

Bad breath can be a sign if they are sickening for something are his glands up in his neck?

swiperfox · 15/07/2005 13:55

has he got any signs of thrush on his tongue? (will be white at the back of his tongue)

Spoo · 15/07/2005 13:55

Just woke him up by prodding his neck. No his glands aren't up but he has a bit of diarreah. _ Seems happy enough though. Gone back to sleep now!

Definitely up the fluids then if he has diarrhoea.

MamaMaiasaura · 15/07/2005 13:58

stinky breath is often due to dehydration. Lots of water.

MamaMaiasaura · 15/07/2005 13:59

esp considering how hot it is probably quite likely!

Spoo · 15/07/2005 14:01

Lots of water it is then - Thank you.
