Hypnosis. Has anyone tried?

Hi,

Since I had my Little One nine months ago, my weight has ballooned to almost 14 stones and I'm now a size 16. I'm on Maternity Leave from my job as a Personal Trainer and whilst I know exactly how to get back in shape and what I should be eating, I just don't seem to possess the will power.

I tend to binge eat and my GP has put me on slimming pills, the first lot worked well and I lost 15 pounds in 5 weeks, but then they were taken off the market, so now I'm on different ones, which I don't think are suitable for me.

Ideally, I would like to lose the weight the good old fashioned way, with a healthy balanced diet and lots of exercise, but can't seem to find the motivation within me.

I would like to try Hypnosis, in the hope it will help to reprogramme my mind to how I used to be. Exercising 3-4 times per week and eating properly. I've heard all the stories about the Hypnotherapist Lily Allen used and she had some success, so thought it might be an alternative option to unhealthy pills.

Has anyone tried Hypnotherapy for weight loss and if so, what was the outcome, did it help?

Thanks

I tried it and thought it was crap. Perhaps I was expecting too much? You still need lots of willpower/motivation. Made zero impact on my weight loss.

I've been considering www.beyondchocolate.co.uk/ which I think sounds better.

I tried hypnotherapy for a phobia, but it didn't work at all.In fact,it made me feel worse,as the guy had cured loads of other people who were far worse than me [serving members of the forces who'd seen bad stuff ect].The fact it didn't help my relatively minor problem made me feel a failure.

Thanks to you both. I think I might give it a go and see what happens, if anything.

I also have a problem with chololate. Damn the people who invented it.

I speak from a therapist POV... hypnosis can have good results but it is not a magic wand - I can't 'make' you do anything! You need to work with the therapist and have a lot of motivation. Even then, it is not 100% - for a variety of reasons (just like conventional medicine).

I would say try a single session and see how you get on.

I have just completed the training for hypnotherapy and would say that it could help you - but it is not 100% effective without a lot of work on your side.. also would say it could take 2-3 sessions to really take effect..

The best results are gained if you have a CD to listen to daily of hypnotic suggestions - I would suggest you get the PK book and listen to that every day and see if it has any impact .. cheaper than the rates the therapists can charge - but not obviously tailoered to your specific needs..

I realise it isn't a miricale cure and might not work, so I'll start with one session. I used to be very motivated, strict with my eating habits, exercising hard 4 times per week, but seem to have lost the will. I just think if I've been motivated before, with some outside help I could reignite that passion I once had.
