Massively painful headaches ~ advice please, starting to panic

I've been having really painful headaches every morning for just over a week at the back of my head going down to my neck.

They wake me up in the morning and I can't move my head.

They normally go around mid day after taking 2 lots of tablets (correct dosage).

I will have to see my GP this week but I am panicking so I would appreciate any thoughts..

have you tried put deep heat or similar on? it may be muscular - caused by your sleeping position? if you don't have any in - try a warm towel - worth a go anyway - but definitely go to your gp

leo, I have only one experience of this with a friend and the headache was caused by raised intra-cranial pressure. It caused severe morning headaches that got better as the day went on. If I was you, I'd go to A&E. My friend received treatment and was fine but it did need treating. I don't want to worry you unduly but I would feel bad not reacting to your message.

Thank you.

I feel like I'm going mad! What treatment did she have?

My friend's happened a while after a head injury and she had a small bleed that was causing a build up of pressure, so obviously a different reason. But the symptoms of morning headache just reminded me. I think it's because the pressure builds up while lying down and then reduces when vertical during the day. As you can tell, I'm not medically qualified so I hope I'm the barking one in this case.

Actually, that reminds me, I had a period of about 3 weeks when I had a constant bad headache that got so awful it woke me up in the night and I had to hold my head to one side because it was so painful to move. The GP did some blood tests and said it looked like I might have had some kind of viral infection, but by then it had gone away anyway. I don't normally get headaches so that scared me but there was no ill effect.

How are you this morning?

In so much pain - think I will go to A&E.

Thank you

I hope they set your mind at rest and I'll check back later. Best of luck.

Hope all OK. I was going to say I thought you might have hurt your neck, hope its just something simple like that.

Elibean · 21/02/2010 14:11

I was thinking neck problems, too, though not sure they'd just be in the mornings if so.

Glad you've gone to A&E, and am thinking of you - hope it goes ok.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/02/2010 18:08

Hope all is well?

Hi. Have been discharged from hospital - I have sinitus(sp?) which was causing my headaches and will need an operation to correct the problem. My headaches have been relieved by using decongestants and pain killers.

They did an MRI scan whilst I was in hospital and they found I have a rare brain disorder which is currently not showing any symptoms and I have a non urgent neurological appointment.

I am very glad that I went to A&E and feel much better.

Thank you for your concern.

Thank goodness you went to the hospital and had the MRI.
Things happen for a reason don't they.
Hope you don't wait too long for the op or the neuro appointment.
Lots of good wishes
