My 3yr old is having her sf jab on Monday. What are other parents experiences of it? Did their child have any reactions?

My DD had hers in November and was fine apart from a sore arm for about 24 hours afterwards.

The healthy child vaccine program is being scrapped in a month. It's obviously seen as an unnecessary waste of resources. There are hardly any cases now. I really don't think it's necessary.

MrsPixie · 19/02/2010 20:56

Don't bother now - it will be over in a month, my nurse said now it's just for "possible future outbreaks" and inclined that it wasn't actually necessary at present

GoldenSnitch · 19/02/2010 21:17

Where did you hear that it would be over in a month bubblemummy? I've had DS's invitation for a couple of weeks now but have been weighing up getting him done or not. If they're ditching the program, I don't think I'll bother.

bubbleymummy · 20/02/2010 00:20

Sorry about delayed response..I read it on a news website - Try googling swine flu in the news section - it should come up

mummynumnum · 20/02/2010 21:30

My only concern is what if it does come back?

My dd had hers done on Thursday and she has been fine.

A little groggy and touchy for a couple of days, but I think thats more to do with her cold. I gave her some calpol as soon as we got home, some before bed and another dose the next morning. More to help with the owee in her leg.

She had hers done in her leg, and tbh I am glad the nurse suggested it. The nurse thought that her arms were too small to cope with the injection

She was very brave, bless her, and we did have alot of tears. She looked at the nurse and said "oooowwwwwww" then burst out crying! A freddy took the pain away :p

She walked around like her leg was broken for a couple of hours, but that was it. It has left a nice little bruise too :p

mummyNN - just look at it again come autumn and see how you feel. It has proven to be a lot milder than seasonal flu - 15,000 deaths WORLDWIDE - whereas seasonal flu kills 12000 a year IN THE UK. If you don't normally get the seasonal flu vaccine then why worry about this one? It only sounds worse because the media have run away with it.

mummynumnum · 21/02/2010 20:09

Ouch the inj sounds nasty-dd is v brave though. My dear sis is a hv and would not get her two older children done but would recommend under 5.

Not a factor in my decision but is this inj more painful than others? Need to decide how much chocolate to take if I do take her!!!!

I found it painless!

Ds had his last week and was absolutely fine, as was I after mine and I have a reaction to everything.

It is a very small amount of vaccine - a quarter of that needed for seasonal flu vaccinations.

If there are no contraindications, I wouldn't hesitate to have it done for an under-5.

Dillie · 22/02/2010 12:47

Just a little note mummyn, hope your dd got on fine today

mummynumnum · 22/02/2010 15:32

She has just had it. V brave but my dh and i were both shocked by how big injection was. Why is that? Poor mite!

Hmmm know what you mean. I just don't trust the whole thing for some reason - but can't really articulate why. It jsut doesn't seem right to put little ones through such a nasty process just for flu?? I mean flu is not nice but it ain't that bad ...

Dillie · 25/02/2010 21:49

Lucy, it polaxed a good mate of mine .. so yes it is/can be that bad
