What cream can be used on eczema on 3mnth old's face

My dd3 has rather bad eczema on her face but she's not even quite 3 months yet. Its just starting to crack and bleed. But being so young I've been nervous about what cream I can put on her face to cure it and had hoped it would "go away" naturally. But its simply getting worse

You should see your doctor I think? As baby skin is a lot thinner than adults and this sounds pretty bad, you might be able to get stuff on prescription. Perhaps book a same day appointment tomo?

My DS was the same and the doc gave me o.5% hydrocortisone cream. It did help a bit.

It started when he was about 2 months old and continued until he was nearly 18 months when, after I had googled endlessly I discovered he was allergic to bananas - after two weeks of no bananas his skin was healing fantastically well.

I hope you find a similar cure but try stopping eating bananas if you are bfing.

cetraben, is fantastic no steriods over the counter and it worked miracles for my dd, recommmended by a great ormond street dermatologist

I also really like Cetraben too. Have tried Aqueous (spelling?) cream but when I used it once on my face it stung so didnt like using it on ds after that even though gp prescibed it. I also used olive oil twice daily when they were small (till about 4-5 months when it just didnt do the job anymore)

Epiderm is really thick, great for a barrier when swimming & clears up scaly type skin/cradle cap overnight - just slap it on thick before bed. In the morning you will have to sit on your fingers so you are not tempted to pick at all the flaky bits in dc hair! (well I do anyway)

When DS skin been really bad (open, cracked,) the GP has usally given him hydrocortisone cream to bring it back under control.

I would take her to GP as her skin is broken & may need more than just an emoliant to sort it out.

you must try this its completely natural. Read the reviews page too

fledtoscotland · 14/02/2010 22:43

we use cetraben as an emolient on DS2's skin and hydrocortisone 0.5% cream on the bad patches. he has had a cough & cold over the last week and is on the second course of antibiotics to shift it. the bit at the bottom of his nose has totally broken down and the gp has now prescribed trimovate to try to get it healed as the naseptin didnt make any difference.

the other thing that I use a lot of is vasaline (normally use this under his nose) as its a great barrier and helps prevents cracks

BalloonSlayer · 15/02/2010 07:58

There is a 0.1% hydrocortisone cream too. It is called Dioderm I think.

You have to be careful though as some pharmacists misread the prescription and give you 1% anyway.

We find Oilatum Junior the best moisturiser - DS1 reacted badly to everything, even aqueous cream which no one is supposed to ever react to . Oilatum Junior came like a miracle for our family, it came on the market just as we had run completely out of ideas.

You need to see a doctor to find out if it is eczema or just a reaction to the cold.

DD had a sore face when she was tiny and we used Weleda Calendula Weather Protection Cream. It is very gentle and worked well.

BeckyBendyLegs · 15/02/2010 09:47

I have the same problem. DS is 3 months and has horrible eczema - sleeps terribly some nights because of the itching (awake 2 hours last night). Breaking my heart. The GP gave us 'double base' cream and hydrocortizone. It works but then it comes back so his skin just yoyos from bad to ok and bad again. I'm going back to the GP. Interested to read about cetrabin. I've never heard of it. Might give it a go.

Sonilaa · 15/02/2010 15:28

We use Weleda Skin Food, dd is 2 months old and her skin uffers in the cold. ds had eczema when little and I just keep dds skin moisturised in the hope to prevent it.

ds now without any skin problems, but I take care that moisturise moisturise moisturise .

Thanks to all, sorry I haven't been on the thread, dd2 has had gastro-enteritus.... But I've had a good read through and am going out to the shops soon.

Personally, I swear by Savlon. It's extremely mild, non-stingy and I used it on my son from birth because his head was badly roughed up during the ventouse delivery and covered in scabs. I've since used it to treat everything from cradle-cap, nappy rash to minor cuts and grazes and it seems to work every time. As a dermatitis sufer myself I use it in preference to cortisone preparations when the condition is mild.
