Prolapse

DSM · 13/02/2010 23:58

I think I have a prolapse and don't know what to do. It's been there probably about 2 years but I think it's getting worse. I have no 'symptoms' as such, but I can see it bulging out.
Can anyone give me some advice? Do I have to go to my gp? Or can it be left untreated?

Apologies for the lack if grammarical clarity, still trying to decipher controls on iPhone.

There's different types of prolapses, a level 1 is where it prolapses a little, with a little stress incontinence (you wee when you sneeze), the last level is when the vagina hangs out, lots of incontinence. Is it the side of the vagina (the walls)you see bulging or is it coming out? Are you doing your pelvic floor exercises?

LowLevelWhingeing · 14/02/2010 00:07

GPs have seen it all before. Just have a brandy and go and ask. It'll be OK.

No incontinence. I can see something bulging out, like somwthing coming out of my vagina.. I don't know exactly how to describe it other than that.
It's not the vaginal Walls, it's coming out the middle.

Please go to a doctor. We can't diagnose you

It's OK Don't be embarassed. You need to pop and see the GP about this though, it's normally caused by a weakness in the pelvic floor muscle after having a baby, you will be refered to a gynaecologist, there's a few treatment options, they will go through them with you. It's a really common thing, best to get it sorted though, it's not dangerous, just embarassing but they really have seen it before.

Oh I know. More looking for advice really.. Do I need to see a doctor? Is there treatment and if so, what? Will thawy poke about to my humiliation then say there is no treatment just carry on?
Just seeking advice, that's all.

I had something like this. It's awful. It became painful to walk as it hung out. You need to see your GP, sweetie. They literally have seen it all before.

DSM · 14/02/2010 00:17

thank you. Just want to know what to expect really. Have no idea about this, only thought it was even a problem after seeing somebody with it on embarrassing bodies on tv
I thought it was normal..

There's treatment, you should see your GP though. The last resort is a repair, there's a ring you can insert to keep it all 'up', there's pelvic floor lessons with the continence nurse aswell if it's really not that bad, the GP will know more

heckythump · 14/02/2010 00:19

I was referred for therapy to increase muscle tone (it turned out it was my bladder hanging out - lovely!)

This was me though - you need to see your doctor and they will refer you for treatment. It's no biggie, but if it's worrying you/getting worse then it needs looking at... literally AND metaphorically.

heckythump · 14/02/2010 00:22

Treatment for mine was just to get the muscles working properly to stop everything hanging out. No biggie for me. Just ask your GP .
