I've just had DSes (9mo and 2.11) done, after much deliberation.

They were absolutely fine with it.

Pammym · 12/02/2010 14:14

I had my DD done and she was fine. Although all seems quiet on the swine flu front at the moment, I would still go for it as we cannot be sure that there won't be another wave of the pandemic

smallorange · 12/02/2010 14:18

I've had my 7 month old done and she was fine - can't make up your mind for you though.
I know as many people who haven't had their kids done as, as have.

Really it's your call

katiepotatie · 12/02/2010 14:24

My Dd 2.8yr and Ds 9 months both have had it, they were both fine and actually Ds didn't even cry when they jabbed him

Marne · 12/02/2010 14:25

your call but i would say 'no' mainly because the cases of SF have dropped so not much chance of getting it anyway, yes it could come back but it might not.

roxy12 · 12/02/2010 14:50

Ok so if i chose for him not to have it then it came back could he have the Jab then or do i have to take him for it quite soon ??

You need to call the GP or health centre about that... Although if there is a third wave, I'd imagine there would be quite a rush for vaccination

roxy12 · 12/02/2010 14:57

smallorange.........Do u think it is best to go ahead with it then incase there is another hit and then it may be too late to have it done as you said there will be a rush for the vaccination!

If there was another hit of it and my son got it i wouldnt forgive myself.....
I am in a bit of a dilema!

It's a tough call for everyone. Ihad my two youngest done because I read that under 5's seem to be hit hard with this and the effects can linger on for months. Some health professionals I know told me to have it done without question.

But

other people I know have decided not to go ahead as they feel the vaccine was rushed through and the effects if the pandemic are much smaller than first feared.

It's tough decision. It's crap being a parent sometimes...

chocohead · 16/02/2010 07:54

My DS (8months) and DD (4 years) were offered it about a month ago and i STill do not know what to do

such a difficult decision, are there any websites that give you reliable information on the jabs (pros and cons, side effect from jabs)

Any help much apprieciated, thanks

migola · 17/02/2010 08:59

I'm deferring my decision until later in the year to see if a new wave arrives next winter and how bad it is. My view is if the new wave is a different strain the vaccine will have to be different anyway so having them done now won't protect them from the next wave (?)

Rhian82 · 17/02/2010 09:06

My DS had his a few weeks ago (he was 15 months). Absolutely fine with it, had a temperature about a week later (but it's cold season and he's had a few anyway so might be completely unrelated) but nothing else.

It was withdrawn for the under-5s in Australia after a largeish number of reactions to it (mostly convulsions, I believe) - don't know why they're still offering it in the UK for the under-5s.

LIZS · 24/09/2010 16:51

hmm , suddenly all the old vaccination threads are being bumped by an antivaccination poster.

thumbwitch · 24/09/2010 17:00

ah, didn't notice the date. Whoops. My comment still stands re. Australian withdrawal of the vaccine though.
