I feel so stupid asking this, but is there a minimum recommended daily amount of fat, either saturated or unsaturated?

I know that the maximum recommended amount of fat is 70g per day for a woman. I'm not sure if there's a minimum, but fat is essential for lots of processes in the body.

Years ago I followed Rosemary Conley's diet which was very low fat and I felt terrible- lacking in energy and always hungry. There are some very nutritious foods which are rich in good fat - avocados, nuts, oily fish etc which you shouldn't cut out. There's a theory that you should eat good fats to lose body fat.

I try and follow this principle and have had more success than with a low fat diet. For me, cutting out white carbs makes more difference to my weight loss than cutting down on fat.

Yes there is a minimum, but it's like 2% or something ridiculous. You need a little bit to form the coverings for nerves or something but that's it. You won't be able to eat less than 2% fat if you tried.

Thanks ladies. I'm cutting down massively on fat due to cholesterol problems, so I think I'm down to 20g to 25g a day, and feeling quite knackered and hungry, so wondering if I was overdoing it a bit.

It won't be eating less fat that's doing that, more likely carbs or protein. Are you cutting out fatty things that are also carby? Can you replace them with something like wholewheat pasta?
