And I had to look up how to spell it.

Good stories and bad stories welcome, I want to know how much ridiculous behaviour I can blame on intitial side-effects after all!

Nope, everyone's too busy trying to get sprogged up, no-one wants long-acting contraception?

it made me put on well over a stone with just 3 injections. I didn't conceive until 9 months after the last injection and we're very fertile.

I spotted regularly and was well you know fat.

bamboobutton · 11/02/2010 21:47

nononononononononono!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it really is poison in a needle.

it gave me terrible mood swings

made me really fat and it took a long time and alot of hard work to shift it.

there have been threads on how awful it is on here before if you do a search on depo.

im too tired to list all the awful things it did to me so im off to my beddy byes in a mo but there are loads of awful side effects.

usualsuspect · 11/02/2010 21:49

I had it for years and was fine

VengefulKitty · 11/02/2010 21:50

I had it twice. Didn't crack a smile for nearly 9 months. Very wild mood swings on top of chronic pissed off face on me.

TheGoddessBlossom · 11/02/2010 21:51

TrillianAstra,

I have been on Depo on and off (ie stopped to concieve twice) for over 15 years.

I have never gained weight on it.

I have never had any problems concieving after being on it.

I have no bleeding at all (yay) no mood swings whatsoever. No periods! At all! no PMT! at all.

I cannot understand why the whole world is not on it. Apart from those with the experiences above obviously.

But I love it, it's marvellous, can highly recommend it. Revelatory.

Good luck,

Bloss

xx

ToccataAndFudge · 11/02/2010 21:51

I had it nearly 2yrs ago.

I spotted - not a lot, but enough to have to wear something to protect my knickers, every single blardy day.

Went for my 2nd one and mentioned it and was told "it'll settle down after your next one"...........so I had it.

And continued to spot daily for another 3 months.

Never again.

riojaguzzler · 11/02/2010 21:56

I wouldn't recommend it!! Was on it about 5 years ago and experienced bad mood swings and mild depression. It also took a good few months after stopping it to get my cycle back to normal. Have a friend who loves it!!

Hope you're lucky with it!

TrillianAstra · 11/02/2010 22:00

Mmm, seems like it'll be exciting... Either in a bad way or in a nervous is-anything-going-to-happen-no-I-feel-fine-yay! way

How do you get on with other hormone contraceptives? That could be an indicator on whether it will suit you or not.

I really wouldn't recommend it if you plan to have more children.

TheGoddessBlossom · 11/02/2010 22:18

gosh I am really amazed about all these dire stories. good luck Trillian ope you have my experience.

TrillianAstra · 11/02/2010 22:29

I generally have the intended reaction to hormones and other drugs.

If I were planning on TTC I'd know baout it in advance and would come off and drop down to a shorter-acting contraceptive, taking time to return to fertility is one of the known (and constant) effects, not really an adverse side reaction.

I was on depo for 3 years. I never put weight on with it untill i intended to as i lost far too much i also didnt suffer from mood swings, spotting or periods. I had my last one in july last year and started on micronor before that one wore off. I took that for 2 months before coming off it earlier than planned, in october. I kept forgetting to take it as i was all over the place with things and 8 weeks after my last pill was taken periods returned. Not ttc just yet but want to in the near future. They're not as regular as they used to be but not too far off

I put on 2 stone whilst on it and my moods were dire, I stupidly did not make the connection but will never go back on it again I have a friend who has just stopped after gaining 5 stone

I spotted for months, was glad to be off it to be honest.

Good luck with it.

MrsMorgan · 11/02/2010 22:59

I didn't put on any weight, but I felt constantly sick, very tired and very irritable.

I'd never have it again.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/02/2010 23:11

I was very moody on it, but the worst part was the bleeding. I had constant spotting, so as a method of birth control it worked bloody brilliantly as we couldn't have sex for months.

I kept going back and saying that I was bleeding, and they said about 7 times "Just try one more jab, it'll probably settle down"... it never did so I bled for well over a year in total, and the effects can take a while to wear off.

bamboobutton · 12/02/2010 08:42

i'm back with the major reason i stopped using depo.

i found out they use it for chemical castration!

Time article

Seona1973 · 12/02/2010 09:02

I put on loads os weight and also spotted constantly. I had 2 injections and then stopped it.

SerenityNowakaBleh · 12/02/2010 09:29

Agree wiht James - brilliant birth control form as we could barely have sex for about 3 months (DP was obviously very happy about it).

For me, it started off fine. For six weeks, no periods, no issues, nothing. Then the spotting started. and continued. Dr advised to try one more, to see if I "settled down" and carried on spotting for pretty much the whole time (had one week went it didn't - I was on vacation, so maybe it was stress related as well?) and then had proper full on periods for three weeks. Pretty much my idea of hell.

Picante · 12/02/2010 09:33

It's EVIL.

Wy why why are you doing this?

TrillianAstra · 12/02/2010 11:24

It's in now.

OP posts:
bamboobutton · 12/02/2010 12:17

if you weren't going to listen to peoples experiences and were going to have the jab anyway why did you bother asking?

didn't you see the foot note at the bottom of the article i posted about how this drug is banned in america??

i hope you don't get any side effects.

TrillianAstra · 12/02/2010 13:25

I am interested in people's experiences. Not so much in proclamations that it is "evil", without any other information.

Planning on having it anyway doesn't preclude me from being interested in other people's experiences. If you were booked to go to Centerparcs you might ask how people had found it, without any intention of cancelling if people said they hadn't enjoyed it. Not a perfect analogy, but it is possible to still be interested even after the decision has been made.

Thanks for the good-luck wishes.
